The presses are rolling and we need a headline FAST! Led Zeppelin has just wrapped up their first live show in over 20 years. You run from your RTH press box into the phone booth outside the lobby, dial Mr. Mod’s private line, and utter your brilliantly clever headline.
See if you can top these two from the L.A. Times:
“It’s Been A Long Time For Led Zeppelin”
“The Players Have Aged But The Song Remains The Same”
Or if you’re too lazy to think of one, what headlines have you read?
“What Was and What Should Never Be”
Not as good as Mod’s, but “They’re buying a rocking chair in heaven.”
I’m still working on this, but in the meantime, this is just about the funniest Zep story to emerge out of this reunion show nonsense:

“Babe I’m Gonna leave You… Eventually”
“Four Stiffs”
“Going to California, and New York, and Florida, and…”
“Good Times, Bad Times… but Mostly Mediocre Times”
“How Many More Times, Indeed!”
“The Song Remains the Same, Even After 30 Years”
“Whole Lotta Viagra”
Good ones! The Naomi Campbell story is good. I also like the reports of McCartney getting flagged, until recognized as Paul McCartney, for smoking a bone backstage.
Dazed and Confused; What Year Is It?
(From the Houses of the) Holy Shit!, Zeppelin’s back together.
“Over The Hill? Far And Away”
“Kash-More”
“Achilles Last Walker”
“Hipbreaker”
“Nobody’s Fault But Theirs”
“Jones Groans: Zep Reps Hep To Page On Stage” (this is for the British front page)
“Shark Week”
Review headline after the first night of the reunion tour:
“SoSo”
Funny stuff, Alexmagic!
“Let the Dollar Be Your Master”
Much as I just can’t stand them the one thing that blew me away was hearing that in less than 24 hours that show was the most downloaded torrent on Dimeadozen ever. There’s some pretty awesome stuff appearing there, too. Over 1,000,000 people leeched it, or so I’ve heard.
They may be old and they definitely always sucked, but they are still one mighty fucking band.
Oh yeah, I heard Jimmy sounded bad, but then again I saw Keith Richards on his last tour. Keith didn’t sound bad because he didn’t play. But good for their fans. Buying all those boxed sets is finally paying off.
2000 Man, I’m shocked and delighted to see this olive branch you’ve held out from Stones fans to Zeppelin fans. I’m still waiting to hear the details of the rift, which I can only assume is traced back to Ian Stewart’s split loyalties:)
I liked Jimmy’s new Look. Good for him for throwing out the hair dye. And did he have a perm all those years, dating back to the early days of Led Zep, or did he use a flattening iron on his hair for this reunion show. The longcoat has got to go, however. I may have to bring Rock Crimes charges against the longcoat (aka duster).
Meh, I still think they suck but most of my Stones fan friends think they’re Super Ginchy. There’s just no accounting for taste, and I think it’s starting to look like I’m the one that doesn’t have any. I’m good with that, though!
If anyone wants to hear it, the flac files are here:

If you’re a fan, I hope it makes you happy.
The duster can’t have Rock Crimes brought agin it! When I saw The Stones in 89 they all walked out in black dusters and they looked sooooo cool….I wanted one real bad. But I’m too short and too fat and the Wonderchick said, “Duster?…..Uhhhhh…I don’t think so.”
So that was the end of that. In defense of The Stones, those dusters were for the opening and that was it. I guess they lose their luster quickly.
