Love me out of it, man. The All-Star Jam is the freeform spot in the Hall to do your own thing.

  1. Those of you in the Philadelphia area have surely heard the news, but longtime WDAS DJ Joe “Butterball” Tamburro died the other day at 70. I listened to him a lot as a kid. Harvey Holiday and later “Butter” were the soundtrack of many a Sunday night drive home from dinner at my grandparents’ house.

  2. Ah, the golden age of Philly radio. I spent many many hours listening to WFIL and WBIG top 40. Not so much listening to WDAS-AM as I wasn’t so tuned into soul at the time beyond the top 40. Then came WDAS-FM and WMMR-FM underground radio. They don’t make ’em like that anymore.

I know Hy Lit passed away a few years ago. And George Michael. I wonder how many others are still spinning (above ground, that is)?

Can’t even type a simple sentence. Ugh.

Has this EVER been discussed here?

  4. Wow, I’ve heard of this but never actually heard it. It is much worse that I would have guessed.

  5. Seriously?!?! It’s Billy Joel doing heavy metal. What were you guessing? And besides, horrible as it is, is it that much worse than the rest of Billy Joel?

(Somebody had to say it and I figured it should be me)

  6. I don’t like heavy metal in general so maybe it’s worse because it takes two annoying things and combines them to make one uber-annoying thing. Billy Joel’s post Attila stuff is horrendous but at least it has structure and a discernible melody, as bad as those melodies may be. What the Attila stuff lacks in melody, it makes up for in aggression and kitchen sink proggy pretensions.

I wish Tonyola hadn’t gone MIA because I’d love to hear his take on this. Can we elect someone to bone up on prog rock so that we can have another subject matter expert for prog rock? I know this stuff bites it but I’d like to have someone with credentials weigh in on the matter.

  7. You’re right on every count. I was just goofing, making the obvious statements that had to be made – even if they weren’t totally true.

  8. I appreciate you and cherguevarra bringing it up. Maybe by acknowledging that it exists and talking about, those of us who have been heard Attila and been traumatized by it can come to some kind of healing. Maybe…

I only made it about 20 minutes in. First thought was, “this isn’t so bad, really” but then it got more and more unbearable. Comments on the page indicate that some claim it is one of the worst albums ever made, which is a mighty lofty claim. While I don’t really care to plumb the depths for specifics, I am certain that one could do much, much worse.

I think that’s the least heavy Heavy Metal I’ve ever heard. Only a Billy Joel fan would mistake that for any kind of metal. That keyboard noise he makes that sound like it’s supposed to be a guitar (I think) just sounds like it has a bad patch cable somewhere. I can’t listen to it anymore. I can’t believe I thought Movin’ Out was as bad as he could get.

    RIP Bill Doss

  12. Who’s going to listen to this Alec Baldwin-Billy Joel podcast so I don’t have to?

  13. The same person who will one day listen to that Billy Idol concert on Wolfgang’s Vault.

  14. Can someone please confirm that I’m hearing what I’m actually hearing here?

Seriously, please check out that link.

  15. Gotta like the deal on buying the whole mp3 album as opposed to buying the individual tracks though…

Strange as it seems, there’s no sales ranking on it. Or customer reviews.

I’ll bet people are illegally downloading it and ripping off the artist and record company.
