You know, the All-Star Jam holds universal appeal. Tell us what’s happening in your musical part of the world. Sightings of tonyola and Happiness Stan would be especially appreciated.

Mod, perhaps we need to have “Prog-Centric” and “I Heart England and Civil Planners” weeks here at RTH to see if we can coax them out of the shadows. We could post something really daft that would be sure to be passed along to them and they would be bound to respond.

  2. Can we maybe have an RTH blog-a-thon for Yoko because I guess she just doesn’t have enough money?

  3. The “Revolution” sneaker? I don’t think so. John was wearing adidas Stan Smiths or something like that during that period, no?

  4. It old news by several months now but I just learned that Don Was is now the president of Blue Note records.

  5. And in the ultimate example of nothings succeeds like excess, October 15 will see the re-release of King Crimson’s Lark Tongue In Aspic – in a 15 DISC SET.

And in the wishful thinking department – order now because it is limited to initial orders with a maximum pressing of 7000.

  6. If this doesn’t bring tonyola back to us nothing will.

What’s with Yesterday shoes? Does Paul get a cut of those?

  8. Oh, and on October 29 – a 6 disc version of the Velvet Underground & Nico.

Just to take somebody’s money away.”

    Seriously? What the?

  10. Seriously. From memory it’s the stereo version, the mono version, outtakes & alternates, Nico’s Chelsea Girl, and 2 disc of live stuff from that era.

Huh. Are there really that many outtakes? I have the so-called Norman Dolph acetate which has a couple of different recordings and several rather different mixes. Maybe they will put out cleaned up versions? Anyway, we shall see.

Thanks, Al. It does look like it includes the Dolph Acetate material, and certainly that Columbus live show is good–the only Nico-era bootleg I am familiar with that is listenable. So, I guess I would say this is not the total rip-off it might have seemed.

  13. Oh brother, I will prepare to be both intrigued and disgusted. Thanks for the heads up.

I was watching one of my favorite movies, La Dolce Vita, the other night. When Nico appeared on screen I got to thinking about all the mileage she logged without doing a whole lot of substance. I like her singing on “All Tomorrow’s Parties,” but otherwise I prefer hearing Lou sing her songs on the Live at Max’s Kansas City album. Chelsea Girl has some good stuff, but Wes Anderson half ruined it through use in The Royal Tennenbaums🙂

  14. High five, Mod. Nico’s vocals on Femme Fatale and I’ll Be Your Mirror bite the big one. One of these days, I’ll get around to listening to Chelsea Girl but I’m pretty sure I won’t like it on account of the fact that Nico’s entire artistic contribution to the world seems to be some kind of Ice Princess pose that I do not find compelling in the least.
