Sweet!

You may have noticed a little High Fives icon/counter that now appears at the bottom of our participants’ comments. It’s not enough to simply Like a comment posted for our community.

This new feature, brought to you by The Back Office, is meant to encourage camaraderie and enable low-level, low-commitment, anonymous participation in the Halls of Rock. Try it out next time you read a comment that makes you smile or nod in approval. No matter how strong our posts are—and lord knows we’re providing more meat for discussion on a daily basis than any of the popular rock blogs reporting upcoming Mumford & Sons tour dates—the real strength of the Hall rests on our comments. When you feel like taking an anonymous opportunity to validate the comment of a fellow Townsperson, here’s your tool. For some of you, we hope the toe you first dip into our flow of rock smack talk through a High Five! will lead to full submersion with comments of your own.

Give me five!

Ok. At least it’s less embarrassing than a rock lock.

Hey, can we find a way to:

a.) give high-fives for actual posts; and

b.) give high-fives for comments on the “latest comments” page

    …?

Incidentally, do we all know what a “rock lock” is? I do.

  4. I’m not sure I do. When I Googled the term I found this disturbing image:

  5. I don’t know about the technical limitations of suggestion b, but I would not want to encourage that little commitment to delving into the site and possibly discovering the unexpected. Call me old fashioned.

On the other hand, the Back Office has investigated the possibility of a mobile RTH site. That is something I would like to see happen one of these days.

  6. Yes! I was wondering if there was an app in the works. Make it happen, Cap’n.

  7. I don’t. I just high fived the comment randomly because I wanted to see if it was possible to high five something multiple times. It isn’t.

  8. Apropos to nothing, I just came across this; Mike Love’s rebuttal to those who claim he fired the other Beach Boys: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-ms-mike-love-beach-boys-on-brian-wilson-20121004,0,261746.story

That is the worst rock lock ever!

  10. Johny Hit and Run

    Those girls are HOT!

  11. OK, so if that’s a rock lock, even the worst ever, it’s no match for the Nixon’s Head Claw!

For the record: a “rock lock” is executed as follows:

    – Person 1 makes a peace sign.

    – Person 2 “throws horns” — i.e., makes the universal heavy metal hand gesture, aka “devil horns.”

    – Person 1 wraps his/her peace sign fingers around the middle two knuckles of Person 2’s devil horns hand.

    – Person 2 wraps his/her finger-horns around the second and fifth knuckles of Person 1’s peace sign hand.

    – Person 1 and 2 both exclaim in unison, “ROCK LOCK!”

It’s fun — you should try it. And it symbolizes harmony between rockers and hippies. I am very pro- the Rock Lock for this important reason. You know, Mod: “healing” and so forth.

  13. Dang, that does sound fun! I’m going to go try it out on my wife.

Oh sure, everything is sunshine and lollipops with your high.fives, but where’s the corollary, that archetypal salute of rockers everywhere, the middle finger?
