  1. One day a little boy named (Brian) asked his Mother what the meaning of life was.

“I don’t know!” said Mrs (Eno), “Go and ask that (Charlatan) of a father of yours.”

So the boy traveled the (Underworld) but was waylaid by the evil (Sasha) who lured him to a dance party with a handful of magic “beans”

The boy had a wonderful time dancing and staring at the lights and met some beautiful people like Mr (Edge0 and Mr (I. Brown).

He woke up in Manchester, on a (Happy Monday) morning, not knowing the answer to the meaning of life, but knowing enough not to ask again.

[Probably way off, but I enjoyed the track!]

Is this a modern track? My guess is that it is a hot indie band of the moment (or third) that has run out of eighties references to plunder (Joy Division,Psychedelic Furs) that they’ve “matured” to the point that they’re working in early nineties techno?

Is this the end of rock history, will we finally swallow the end of our nostalgic tails and erase all memory of the music from our minds? What genre has been invented this decade? Is AMERICAN IDOL the Beatles of our age, Is Simon Cowell our John Lennon? Will some annoying youth please invent some new genre so annoying that I can be offended and get on with my old age?

Or I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely…

I guessed who this was, and went and confirmed that I was correct, so I guess I’ll sit this out.

Until the modern synth and drum sounds crept in, I was wondering what sub-Pink Floyd contemporary this was. I kind of like the swirling background noises, but why try to impose a rhythm on this? I say it’s gotta be from the UK with roots circa 1986. Hair dye and eyeliner were surely involved in the recording of this track.

I’m guessing European. Doesn’t the vocalist have some kind of indeterminate accent? I can’t listen loud enough at work to tell, especially with all the swirliness. It sounds like the ‘lyric’ is “love is in a dream, warmer than the sun.” Is that something a native English speaker would say? The programming does not sound amateurish though.

And to db, there are new genres being created (dubstep and baile funk for example), just not in America and not with guitars.

These are some of the best Mystery Date comments I’ve read. Sadly most everything is way off.

alexmagic: I appreciate you holding your tongue and once revealed looking forward to hearing how you came about it. I’m assuming that you had heard of it but not actually heard it.

  7. Probably some hipster’s bedroom recording, made after a coke jag, from NYC.

  8. mockcarr

I think I had a date like this once, but I just drank a lot until she went away.

BTW, bravo to Townsmen Artslap, dbuskirk, Mod and Big Steve for slamming their amble jewels on the table promptly and proudly.

dr john & mockcarr? What’s with the pea-shooters? Too ashamed to proffer a proper opinion and guess? Why don’t you guys, and everyone else to tiny to make a comment go here http://www.euroextender.com/ and get back to us.

I’m guessing The Fireman, aka Sir Paul McCartney. At first I thought it was some kind of bullshit OMD wannabe, but then I heard the sunny, upbeat lyric, and realized it was a washed-up rock star hanging out with a bullshit OMD wannabe.

Do I get a prize? And secondly, how come nobody’s posted their thoughts on the new Fireman LP, which is very much a solo Paulie album, and much different from this.

  11. …So, now I’m sitting in my cubicle with a ad for penis enlargement products on my screen. Well played, Sammy….

I really heard the Floyd influence as well. I’m going to go with an English DJ but since I don’t know many of them, I’ll say Boy George.

  12. sammymaudlin

hvb wins the no-prize! Eggsellent my friend.

Although this is from the new Fireman release.

Stay tuned and I’ll post a few more tracks.

I’m still waiting for Seger’s Fireman-like album. Alexmagic, did you get that advance copy yet?

  14. mockcarr

I listened to 20 seconds and starting to feel all the testosterone leaving my body and certain amount of, how shall I say it, shrinkage. So I let Her Undies have the glory.

  15. 2000 Man

I know the answer is up, but man…that song ssuuuuuuuccckkkkssssss.

  16. What happened to the Mystery Date video, it says it is no longer available?

  17. BigSteve

McCartney had the Mystery Date video taken down when his minions reported what we were saying about his vanity project.

  18. BigSteve

And btw Mr Mod or The Back Office, there are no comments on the Zevon post because there’s something awry:

    “Tags: warren-zevon-s-lemgsentimental-hygienel

Sorry, there is nothing to display…”

  19. Mr. Moderator

How can they take down our Mystery Date video??? We’ll look into this as well as whatever the problem is with that Zevon post. Thanks.

  20. hrrundivbakshi

Hey, Mod and thebackoffice — have we been hacked? I just noticed a really nasty photo of shit being pulled out of a toilet bowl on the Mystery Date page, where the ads are now supposed to be.

  21. alexmagic

That’s the replacement for the Cadillac Records ad; it’s for that new GG Allin biopic coming out on Christmas.
