Great show, Slim, as I do work (ugh) on a gloomy morning when I should have been playing baseball. Damn rain!
I’m a big fan of the album with that Gary Lucas track. I’m a big fan of Werner Herzog’s film, as well. Of course, I first learned of Lucas through his work on the last couple of Captain Beefheart albums. In 1994, Mrs. Moderator and I saw him and a keyboardist perform live accompaniment to an old German Expressionist film, The Golem, in Budapest. It was a night to remember.
I would have entitled this set, “Music to Paint By.” This is the sort of set I overhear when Slim is painting. He likes that atmospheric instrumental stuff. Just throw in some Godspeed…and I shut the door.
No really, I enjoyed the set and listened to it twice. (It’s good music to cook to, as well.) I was particularly partial to the Barry Adamson (off the wonderful “Moss Side Stories – a whole movie soundtrack in itself). And The Books track was lovely: one of my dance teachers once used a different Books track for a modern dance and I tend to be partial to their sound.
I wonder how many more of those tracks were used in movie soundtracks? Certainly you can add The Ronettes to the list.
Kites are not fun!
I agree! I’m not sure if there’s anything from childhood that failed in its promise of fun more spectacularly than the kite.
