Will your Mystery Date be a dream or a dud?

Available through the Grateful Dead Package Deal!

Would you believe it was the great Garth Hudson behind “Dark Star,” our JAMuary Mystery Date? This is from his 2001 solo album, The Sea to the North, now available through the Grateful Dead Package Deal. Here’s another track from it, for those of you still in doubt whether you got what you wished for. I hope this puts Garth lovers more at ease.

Garth Hudson, “Little Island”

(For those of you still scratching your heads over my “one of the guitarists backed Christ” clue, Michael Been played the Apostle John in The Last Temptation of Christ. Garth played keyboards on the first three albums by Been’s band, The Call.)

And the drummer I was referring to was Gary Burke, who nowadays is the drummer in the Crowmatix, who are kind of the house band on this album.

Wow — I really, *really* like that “Little Island” number!

It may be the best thing he ever did.

Glad you found “Little Island” redeeming, perhaps even healing?

Healing, perhaps. I did reinforce my suspicions about those Canadian Civil War re-enactors known colorfully as “The Band”.

  6. I guessed it might be him since a version by him came up on Amazon when I searched the song title. I was guessing that the drummer Steve mentioned could have been Levon since I knew he hit at least a few of the artists Steve listed.
