Perkins!
What rockers are wearing a piece or otherwise fortifying what age and genetics have denied them? Elton John and Carl Perkins are givens. Paul Simon gave up trying, so he’s no longer under observation. I’ve long suspected something’s going on with Ron Wood (rug), Bill Wyman (rug), and Steven Tyler (weave), but I can’t be sure. I’d like to think something’s up with Gene Simmons, but they couldn’t sell a weave that looks that bad, could they?
Not a rocker, but the drummer from 10,000 Maniacs. He had a foppy kind of hairdo early on, then went full-on chrome-dome.
Yes, that drummer (rocker enough for these purposes) was surely an inspiration to Paul Simon.
Robbie Robertson’s got something on his head that doesn’t belong there. I’m not sure what it is.
Oates? (With an ‘e.’)
I think Oates’s ‘do is real. At least, a recent picture of post-stache Oates shows no obvious signs of toup-age.

Same with Robertson…dunno:

although the Philly contingent WILL acknowledge that he’s looking more and more like Tom Laxx, aka TJ of Philadelphia Record Exchange and Silt Breeze Records fame.
I can see why you’d suggest both, BigSteve, but I don’t think we’ve got conclusive evidence for either.
But hey… what’s up with Axl’s hair extensions?

somethin’ fishy goin’ on there.
I thought we were counting weaves in addition to pure toupage. And saturn’s photos certainly convince me that something non-organic is going on up there in both cases.
Is that Joan Van Ark kissin’ Axl?
Tom Jones has an interesting hair thang going on these days. Can you weave curly locks?
Very curious to see what Weller does with his hair when it finally becomes too thin to do, well, whatever he’s been doing with it lately.
Of course, world’s worst rock hair right now are the absurdly black-tinted locks of Sir Paul McCartney. Just go grey, already!
Tom Jones is definitely working some hair architecture. I agree with BigSteve that Robertson’s got a little too much hair piled on that older gent’s scalp.
The long delay in getting Chinese Revolution out was most likely due to Axl’s perfection in acquiring the perfect cornrow weave.
Hrrundi, I see 80-year-old Weller as the Peter O’Toole of rock. He’ll have about 17 strands of hair left but worn in the exact style he’s been wearing his hair for the last 15 years, not noticing that his strands are missing their friends.
Sammy and I spoke about this earlier today, and he had a great suggestion. I don’t want to steal his thunder, but I think you’ll dig the guy he’s investigating.
Joan Van Ark? That’s the funnier option, but I was guessing Donatella Versace
re: Robertson
Don’t native americans keep their hair 🙂
Morrissey has a rug.
He’s startin to look like Shatner.
I was surprised by the Robbie Robertson suggestion as well, but then I saw this picture:

Something is definitely off there. Maybe the hair is legit and he’s just going the dye route. Or maybe that’s a Wax Robbie Robertson Replica. I’m not entirely sure.
Adam Duritz from Counting Crows has never been in the closet about his detachable dreads.
While I admire his honesty, choosing White Guy Dreads for his “spare-do” is really misguided. That was a bad look when it was popular 20 years ago. Now it’s just a shonde.
Jezus. That Robertson pic live? He looks like Lewis Black being attacked by a marmot. Unreal. I don’t want to cast aspersions on reactions to the grim realities of aging, but you should at least keep it within a few decades of the rest of you. And if you’ve put on some hard miles and look older than your years, then age your hair proportionally.
Older rockers should start accenting, say, the cod-piece. More and more ludicrous ornament and size would distract from hair and dental issues up above. And what says Elder Statesman of Rock like a distinguished cod-piece?
