50th anny of the Beatles on Sullivan coming up and I’m still stuck on Lorne Michaels’s offer of $3000 for the Fabs to re-group and play “three Beatles songs.” I keep thinking, “Would’ve been funny if they showed up and played, ‘Mr. Moonlight,’ ‘Flying,’ and ‘You Know My Name (Look Up the Number),’ took their money (gave Ringo less), and went home.”
That story reminds me of a story I heard when talking to people involved in Stiff Records. The label offered John Lennon some measly sum, like $5, to put out a record on Stiff. Supposedly Lennon loved the joke so much that he framed the offer letter and hung it on a wall. Who knows?
One piece of welcome news that I saw yesterday is that Christine McVie is returning to Fleetwood Mac. As the author/singer of my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, “Over My Head,” I welcome this news.
