We here in the Halls of Rock Town are sometimes taken to task for being overly negative, snarky, hyper-critical, and all too often, just downright rude. As part of our collective efforts to bring a bit of sunshine and light to the world wide web, we occasionally make an extra effort effort to find something good to say about, you know, stuff that is clearly godawful. To some people.
It is in that spirit that we embark on yet another effort to bring some positivity to our proceedings. Please spend some quality time with music written by the band above, then — if you can — please find something nice to say about them. You’ll feel a whole lot better, I promise you.
I look forward to your comments. Just remember, if you can’t say anything nice about the Beatles… please don’t say anything at all.
At least 2 stations in Philadelphia played nothing but the Beatles over the last few days – all day last Thursday or Friday on one station and all weekend on the other, the latter in A-to-Z style. You know what I realized that is nice? Even “Got to Get You Into My Life,” a Beatles song I don’t particularly like, is better than all but, like, 3 songs by the Byrds.
My 6 year-old son wore his “Here Come the Beatles” shirt yesterday. It features our four heroes with an American flag in the background.

My wife bought it for him at the Gap or some place like that. (I sure hope she didn’t pay $34 for it, though) It’s pretty funny that in 2014, there are little kids running around with Beatles stuff on. I sure the hell didn’t have a shirt featuring some act from 50 years back. when I was a kid, although I guess guys used to wear Beethoven and Shakespeare shirts around.
The Beatles had a really top-notch bassist.
McCartney’s drumming on “Dear Prudence” is quite good.
Some of their songs are really catchy, like “Please Please Me” and “Something Tells Me I’m Into Something Good”

Except for Katy Perry singing Yesterday in a Muu Muu, the Ed Sullivan appearance tribute show last night on CBS was very entertaining and sweet. It’s comforting to see that Ringo and Paul seem to still really like each other. Paul can still belt it out, and even Ringo’s songs were a treat. Those things can typically be such an ass-kiss fest, but that one came off as genuine. Barbara Bach is stilling bringing it too!
