The following questions are meant to elicit a sense of your rock ‘n roll values and experiences. This set is particularly geared toward assessing your abilities as a rock ‘n roll lover. Don’t worry, we won’t get too personal – unless you want to go there. Your candid answers will likely warm the heart of a fellow rock nerd if not a romantic partner. Let’s get it on!

Do you tend to prefer songs of love or songs of unrequited love?

What’s the Whitman’s Sampler of rock albums?

As a lover, what love song by The Rolling Stones might you use to transmit your romantic intentions?

What’s the jelly-filled chocolate, quickly shoved back in the box after someone’s stuck their thumb through the bottom to determine what’s inside it, of rock songs?

What purported love song makes you want to go a lifetime without love?

Honestly, has music ever played a positive role in your love life? Please share.

I look forward to your responses, and take it from me, dudes: women prefer cut flowers to plants on this day. They find the ephemeral nature of the cut flowers to be more romantic than the hearty, long-lasting qualities of the living plant. I guess this is the role we already serve for our mates.

Do you tend to prefer songs of love or songs of unrequited love?

Unrequited, definitely. There’s more opportunity to come at it from an angle I hadn’t thought about, which is what I like best.

    Hotel California.

What purported love song makes you want to go a lifetime without love?

There’s two. Diary by Bread and that song by Dan Fogelberg about seeing his old lover in the grocery store, standing by the frozen food.

Honestly, has music ever played a positive role in your love life? Please share.

Not really. I don’t think I ever met a woman that liked the same kind of music as me, or maybe it’s disliked the same kind of music I do. It doesn’t play a negative role in my love life, it just doesn’t play much of a role at all.

I like songs of yearning, and songs where the singer tries to talk someone into falling in love, like Let My Love Open the Door.

Honestly, has music ever played a positive role in your love life? Please share.

I do remember getting an ‘I’m impressed’ kiss after someone asked me to get the guitar out and sing a song, apparently not believing that I could. (It was Richard Thompason’s Small Town Romance, but don’t try this at home, kids.)

I think its role has been largely negative, in that my single-minded focus on music has drawn my attention away from my personal life, and prospective partners have seen the guitars and drums and the record collection and (correctly) predicted that I’m some kind of freak.

On my first date with my wife, we went to the Khyber to see The Original Sins.
They played “No Matter What” by Badfinger.
    then i kissed her.

  4. Do you tend to prefer songs of love or songs of unrequited love?

Unrequited, especially if it leads to desperation and/or ruin.

    The Beatles.

Yes, heh heh, and no way.

  5. I really don’t care for “broken heart” or the extolled romantic love songs at all.

As far as romance related rock and roll, I’m into either the egotistical “distanced observer in retrospect” like Evil Woman, Daytripper, or (Treat Me Like You Did) The Night Before. Or I am into the straight up lustful foreplay IE. Bang A Gong, Radar Love or Rock n’ Roll Hoochie Coo.

When it comes to sex, electronic dance is where it’s at all the way.

What’s the Whitman’s Sampler of rock albums?

I’m pretty sure the cover of Love You was designed by whoever designed the Whitman’s Sampler box.

As a lover, what love song by The Rolling Stones might you use to transmit your romantic intentions?

Gender issues aside, I like to let women know up front that the relationship is going to be as awkward and uncomfortable as JaBo’s “Dancing In The Street.” This is why I always wear a billowy white trenchcoat for every first date. Also, I prefer all conversations to be held with foreheads touching.

I know many here would possibly reverse this, but the beginning of “Maggie May” sounds like it could be “Wish You Were Here”, and I’ll often move along when that turns out not to be the case. I think Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long” – the mutant double-ripoff hybrid of “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Werewolves of London” – may have taken this crown, though.

What purported love song makes you want to go a lifetime without love?

Engelbert Humperdinck, “After the Lovin'”. The music equivalent of open robes, chest hair and various oils used for purported sensual pleasures. Ugh.

  7. Do you tend to prefer songs of love or songs of unrequited love?

Unrequited all the way (and stalking songs are kinda cool)

When hasn’t it? I played bass in a rock band in the late 1980’s / early 90’s. My entire love life at the time was based in music (or musicians)

Turns out my wife also was a bassist in a band before we met. I was introduced to her by her brother as a “fellow bass player” one of our first dates was going to see The Lemonheads.
