  1. Lust for Life.

    try:
    dah-na dee-na dah
    dah-na dee-na dah-na dah
    dah-na doo-na dah

  2. hrrundivbakshi

I think cdm is going for “Smoke On the Water” — though I would rewrite the last line as :

    Dum Dum.

  3. Hrrundi is correct! Technically, it’s his turn to submit a song, but if he wishes to yield to you, shawnkilroy, he may.

  4. hrrundivbakshi

    How about:

    Duh-da-dum-dum-da-dum-dum-DUMMM
    Duh-da-dum-da-dum!

Here’s a clue: according to the title of the album on which this instrumental appears, you’d only ever hear it at night.

  5. Damn, those are tough ones.

Is yours Eine Kliene Nachtmusik, hrrundi?

  6. hrrundivbakshi

Shawn’s is making me crazy. But, no, cdm, it’s the Name That Tune buzzer for you. Try again — my clue is a good one.

  7. HA! Frankenstein by Edgar Winter

And yes, Shawn’s is alternately driving me nuts and cracking me up. How’s about a hint,Shawn?

  8. hrrundivbakshi

    cdm: DINGDINGDINGDING!

I yield the floor to shawnkilroy.

  9. Da Da Da Dada

    Dadadada Da Da Dada

Another easy one, I think. Let me know if you need a hint.

  10. hrrundivbakshi

I think we should settle on some form of guidelines to help explain how we write:

    – a normal note: I suggest “da”
    – a long note: I suggest “dah”, or “daah”, if the note is really long
    – a short note: I suggest “du-“, where the hyphen connects the short note to the next one
    – a loud or emphasized note: I suggest ALL CAPS

  11. I was trying to keep the game as “rules free” as possible but alright. I resubmit:

    Dah Dah Dah Dada

    Du-du-du-du-du

    Da Da Da Da

  12. hint please cdm…

  13. Classic Rock/Hard Rock/Heavy Metal

Let me know if you need another.

  14. Is it Iron Man? If so, you left out one final Da.

If it isn’t, I’m stumped but not caving.

  15. DINGDINGDING! It is Iron Man! I’m just going from memory but I don’t think I left off a “Da”

Congratulations, you now have the conch.

  16. ladymisskirroyale

I was kinda thinking that cdm’s original could be “Barbara Ann.”

  17. sorry for the delay i just got back.
    here’s the hint:
    “LaMonte, ya big Dummy!”

  18. Sanford and Sons Theme? If so, it seems a bit off.

  19. alexmagic

    Da-da-DEE-da
    Da-da-DEE-da
    Da-da-DEE-da
    Da-da-DEE-da
    Da-da-DEE-da
    Da-da-dee-da, Dah
    Bum-BUM!

I really hope someone needs a clue for this one.

  20. oh does it?

  21. Mr. Moderator

I’m so up my own rock-nerd ass that I thought shawnkilroy’s LaMonte clue meant it was a Velvet Underground song!

I’m really bad at this game, but I’m enjoying watching others play.

  22. “oh does it?”

I’m not sure but that last dah was throwing me off.

  23. alexmagic, I thought it was the Batman theme until that last line. How about a hint?

  24. Oops, I meant Peter Gun not Batman

  25. alexmagic

    Hint: Those are the lyrics.

  26. Hmmm… Quite vexing…

Is it Doo Doo Doo Da Da Da? Obla Di Obla Da? Something from Murmur?

  27. I realize alexmagic has the floor, but I’m gonna throw this out anyway:

    Dum
    Da Da Dum
    Da Da Dum
Da da DA da da da da da da da
    (repeat)

  28. Piece of cake. That’s the Barney Miller Theme

  29. alexmagic

Sonny: “Wojo’s Blues”, AKA “The Theme From Barney Miller”

Further hint for mine: The Dutch pulled a stunning upset over Team Australia in the recent World Cup of Rock despite not having this band on their roster and that song in their playbook.

  30. By the way, I think the speed in which people can figure out the answer speaks to the ability of the Sing Suggestor to get his or her point across. In other words, I think that Sonny is winning.

  31. I just snarfed some tea onto my keyboard. Is it Hocus Pocus by Focus?

  32. Da Da Da
    du-Da Da Da du-Da

  33. I need to revise my latest entry. The cadence is the same but trust me this is an important distinction.

    Bum Bum Bum
    Ba-Bum Bum Bum Ba-Bum

  34. cdm and alexmagic are correct with the Barney Miller Theme (Wojo’s Blues).

cdm — that’s has to be the Cheech and Chong classic “Earache My Eye.” Actually, it’s the opening to that bit by none other than Alice Bowie.

“My daddy he disowned me cause I wear my sister’s clothes.
He caught me in the bathroom with a pair of panty hose.”

  35. Nice guess, but I believe that would sound like this:
    Da NaNa
    Da NaNa
    Da Da Da

“Mama talking to me trying to tell me how to Live…”

    Hint: The low end

  36. CDM: Opening from Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life?”

  37. Ooh….hang on, I retract Iggy… is it “Istanbul not Constantinople”?

  38. Two good but incorrect guesses, BR.

Another hint: It’s a bass line in the beginning of a song.

Incidentally, according to wikipedia, this song “garnered [the band] its only Grammy nomination, for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal”. The band lost to RTH perennial favorite Bob Seger.

  39. Last hint: The group who performed this is rock royalty.

  40. Ok….you threw me by starting on the “one”….is this actually a funk song?

    Id have transcribed it as:
    ba ba
    BUM BUM BUM
    ~uh~
    ba-BUM BUM BUM ba-BUM

Queen – another one Bites The Dust!

  41. Mr. Moderator

    Nice work, beenreepin!

  42. Ok, this should be easy, so no first hint.

    Intro:
    BAAH BUP BAAH
BUP BAH BA BUP-BUP BUP BAAH
    BAAH BUP BAAH
BUP BAH BA BUP-BUP BUP BAAH
    BAAH bup-bup-BAAH bup-bup-BAAH

  43. hint please

  44. Hint: Mustaches compulsory.

  45. Hint 2: Great place to dine.

  46. This is a tough one but I’m in a seminar today so I shopuld be able to devote 5 or 6 hours to it.

  47. Hint 3: This song has its own dance…im spelling it out for you now!

  48. Hey we never figured out this last one.
