If Blues Hammer hasn’t already convinced you that 99.9% of white guys (and 110% of Dutch guys) should stay far, far away from Da Blooz, then this 1968 performance by Cuby & The Blizzards should settle the matter…once and for all. I think the two guys from the 1:24 through 1:30 mark would back me up, not to mention the dude who leads the march toward the door at the 3:03 mark. Enjoy!
A few problems: The Les Paul is not good for blues, Gibsons are not blues guitars. Also, they are lacking the proper hats. Where are the Line 6 amps? All wrong.
See what I mean?

Man, I could listen to this stuff all day. Actually, I feel like I just did. By the way, which one’s Cuby?
I think there are about 50,000 very black, very talented blues guitarists who play(ed) Les Pauls who would disagree with you, Cher. John Lee Hooker is the first one who springs to mind.
Perhaps the all-time greatest white blooz player, Peter Green, was also a LP guy, and he was astonishing. None other than B.B. King refused to follow Green’s original Fleetwood Mac on stage, saying, “that white kid scares the hell out of me.”
Anyhow, just disagreein’.
hrrundi, I’ve never thought the Les Paul itself was unsuited for blues, but what do I know? What I need to know is your opinion of The Blizzards’ lead guitarist and, especially, his tone.
BTW, sweet vids, cher! I just got a chance to check them out.
Listen, don’t get bent about the Les Paul thing, I’m just the messenger, man.
(PS – watch the video on my first link)
🙂
Sorry for my malfunctioning humorometer, cher.
Let me just say of this vuh-deo: pee-YOU! That guitar player totally blows!
Hey! I thought that Duane Allman was the all-time greatest white blooz player???????
I haven’t even gotten to 1:24 yet. I just had to mention that the completely out-of-tune bend at 0:27 should seal the deal. Actually, the fact that the thing is 7:24 should convince anyone Once And For All without even listening to a note.
Ain’t that the truth!
