This week’s All-Star Jam counts on you to provide stimulating discussion, nerdy rock news flashes, and other trivialities that only people like us may care about. Such as the following tip, delivered to The Back Office by Townsman tonyola:
Here’s an odd and somewhat sad story…
“NEW YORK — Joseph Brooks, the Academy Award-winning songwriter of “You Light Up My Life” who was awaiting trial for rape, was found dead Sunday of an apparent suicide in his Manhattan apartment, police said.”

That noxious song will never sound quite the same, will it?
Or this Ringo Starr interview, passed along by Townsman plugdin2:
‘Paul likes to think he’s the only remaining Beatle’: Ringo Starr on why the world’s most famous band was lucky to have him
Or perhaps you just want to remind your fellow Townspeople about an opportunity to help a fellow Townsman for as little as $1 AND test your Classic Rock Psychic Powers.
Rock Town Hall can count on you!
I’m late on the Kate Bush “Workin’ Overtime” debate . . . but
over the weekend, I was listening to her new “Director’s Cut” remixes of The Sensual World and The Red Shoes, and my wife weighed in with the strong statement (for her) that she not only HATES Kate Bush, but she also HATES Tori Amos! So I got a twofer “pronouncement” out of her!
That said, Kate was/is extremely fetching . . .
The Sensual World

That’s funny. My wife just shakes her head and takes major points off my rock credibility at the thought that, years ago, I’d ever bought 3 or 4 Kate Bush albums.
Ouch. I find both her and Amos to be running out of the room screaming bad, but I think, if forced at gunpoint to pick one over the other, I would say Amos is incrementally less awful.
You mean you find her more attractive than Bush?
I think The Dreaming is pretty much an outstanding album by Bush. It’s certainly her most daring work.
Has anyone else heard of this? http://www.realrocknews.com/mick-jagger-part-of-new-supergroup/
This isn’t the only supergroup that supposedly involved Jagger.

By the way, I’ve heard the Masked Marauders record. It’s pretty terrible. Maybe it’s where the Stones got the idea for Jamming With Edward.
I’ve got that album and played what I think is the best cut from it, some play on a Dylan song/title, on a recent SNSI. The concept and the liner notes were worth the couple of dollars I spent on the record.
No, strictly in terms of the music. I cannot get past that to consider the attractiveness of either.
Fair enough, I’ve been there with some artists.
Let me add that I am sure they are both genuinely decent human beings, and the fact that their music makes me want to smash my head between two large rocks is in no way meant to be a judgment on their characters. I just wanted to make that clear.
You know, I meant to bring this up when this paragon of rock mediocrity was being discussed recently, but is Bad Company the only act to pull off the trifecta of band name (Bad Company), lp title (Bad Company), and song title (Bad Company)?
STUNNING THOUGHT!
Philly Townspeeps of a certain generation or two, I meant to share this earlier, if you hadn’t heard:

Read down to see that legendary local punk rock scenester Mikey Wild is in hospice care.
There’s a hidden track on Seal’s second, self-titled album (Seal) that consists entirely of Seal playing a bank of bicycle horns by hitting them with his nose. Lewisohn’s Seal Recording Sessions (which covers the Seal’s first, second and fourth albums) lists its working title as “Seal”.
Possibly qualifying–though I think with an asterisk–is Bo Diddley (artist), Bo Diddley (song), and Bo Diddley (lp). The asterisk because the lp, his first, is a collection of his released singles to that point, I think. But I cannot think of any other contenders. Perhaps others will.
I began checking the discography of Chicago to see if they had pulled off this feat when I came across this equally stunning nugget:
That is quite an achievement. I had no idea, in fact. How the hell did they get away with releasing a debut double lp?
What year did they debut, 1968? That must mark the point when drug culture infiltrated corporate culture.
The Hall’s wrasslin’ fans will enjoy this:

Frank Zappa managed a debut double with Freak Out – in 1966, no less!
But 3 in a row – right out of the gates?
It appears that Chicago took a royalty cut to get Columbia to agree to a double for the first album. However, it was successful enough that Columbia had no problems with II and III. After all, Columbia could charge more for a double, right?
Interesting.
A couple of friends just reminded me that it’s Levon Helm’s birthday today, May 26. He’s GREAT!

Yikes! Former KISS replacement guitarist Vinnie Vincent accused of multiple counts of very bad behavior:
