Making the BBC world news – Spandau Ballet suggested as next British national anthem: “We are indestructible!” (ha ha) – I’m serious though:

Just received a piece of junk mail sent from “Thee American Mortgage Corp.”, which reminded me of all the real and ersatz 60s garage punk bands with “Thee” in their names. I never understood the “thee.” Is it extra-long for emphasis — I mean, to help us pronounce it correctly? Is it some kind of incomprehensible joke at the bible or Shakespeare’s expense? What?
Lou Reed will be appearing on Spectacle: Elvis Costello With…tonight. Just a reminder.

Fogerty Revisits ‘Blue Ridge’ On New Album

A pair of returns will mark a creative outburst from John Fogerty in 2009.
The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman is finishing work on
“John Fogerty: The Return of the Blue Ridge Rangers,” a sequel of
sorts to his 1973 solo set of vintage country and roots covers, “Blue
Ridge Rangers.” He’ll also be putting out “John Fogerty — Comin’ Down
the Road,” a DVD chronicling his first concert at London’s Royal
Albert Hall, which took place earlier this year, as well as a
documentary about his life and career. Release dates for both are
still pending.
Fogerty tells Billboard that he’s long hoped to return to the Blue
Ridge Rangers concept, but not as the one-man band he was on the
original. “I’ve known for years that if I ever did a Blue Ridge
Rangers album again I sure didn’t want to play all the instruments,”
Fogerty explains. “I had long felt that was probably something that
was wrong with the first album.”
Fogerty recorded “The Return of the Blue Ridge Rangers” during a 10-
day session at Village Recorders in Santa Monica, Calif., with T Bone
Burnett and Lenny Waronker co-producing. Among the players were Buddy
Miller, Greg Leisz, Dennis Crouch, Jay Bellerose and Kenny Aronoff.
Fifteen songs were recorded from a list of about 40 that Fogerty,
Burnett and Waronker assembled, and while Fogerty is keeping mum on
specific titles, he acknowledges that there would be at least one
Merle Haggard tune on the album.
“My pre-requisite was that I didn’t want to get into the realm of
trying to be really hip and obscure,” Fogerty says. “I’ve seen people
get really out there, and it’s stuff nobody’s heard of or maybe it’s
stuff nobody wants to hear of. For me it just had to be a good song, a
great song, ’cause great songs will carry you a long way.”
Fogerty does some more looking back on the “Comin’ Down the Road” DVD.
In addition to the concert — a 12-camera HD affair which traverses
his CCR and solo career and features guest appearances by his teenage
songs Shane and Tyler — the documentary features extensive interviews
with Fogerty as well as visits to El Cerrito, Calif., where he grew
up, CCR’s Cosmos Factory rehearsal hall/studio and Fantasy Records’
headquarters in Berkeley.
You may have noticed that some of our posts now contain a line at the bottom for “Tags.” Alexmagic requested this function a few weeks ago, and little did I know it was sitting right there in The Back Office for our use.
I’ve begun the laborious process of tagging posts according to some key topics. Not all posts will be tagged, but recurring RTH topics, such as Thrifty Music posts; Last Man Standing and Battle Royale threads; posts centering around the Holy Trinity of Rock – ELO, Prince, and ZZ Top; fashion and stage presence threads; The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, Led Zeppelin; and many more topics you’ve come to love will be tagged. I’ve already tagged all the Last Man Standing posts, for instance. There are many of these posts!
For those of you who don’t know what this fuction does, when you click on a post’s particular tag, all other posts tagged as such will sort, as if you did a very specific search on RTH topics involving “hippies.” The tags should enable you to more easily catch up on past posts on topics that interest you and more efficiently waste time.
Let me know if you have any questions. I’ll try to compile a list of tags that I’ve initiated and get them out to those of you with Back Office privileges so we can use the same terminology and tag all future posts accordingly.
Enjoy, and thanks for the suggestion, Alexmagic.
Mr. Mod, when are we going to get those links to the previous and following threads back to the top of the page?
Al, in this layout, placing those links back at the top that may be a major pain in the butt. For that matter, I think it’s pretty low on the list of priorities. There’s a good chance I’ll get those Hear Factor CDs out before we change that. Sorry.
Que sera sera!
Thanks anyway.
Yeah, I imagine going back and adding the tags is going to be a pain. But thanks for doing it anyway. I hope “…as it was meant to sound!” and “Walter Becker’s Beard” tags make the cut.
Alexmagic, I’m waiting for a day when my obsessive-compulsive nature really needs to be fed to tackle all the Lou Reed tags.
I didn’t know Spiderman was a chick!
2K. That freaked me out as well. I mean with a name like Spider”MAN”, I just figured. Good to know though.
Don’t know if anybody has seen this:

TB, that is so cool! I’m moving!
Why is McCartney so….McCartney
From MSNBC:
Report: McCartney says he’s the political Beatle
Singer claims he, not Lennon, advocated group’s anti-war stance
No need to read the article just subsitute “politics” for “avant garde music”

Yet another example of “I Could Have Had Yoko First!”
McCartney: Someone should tell him Ringo was cuter too.
You know, these kinds of comments by Macca used to irk me but now I just feel sorry for him. He was one fourth of the greatest band ever, he was one-half of the greatest songwriting partnership ever, he’s a multimillionaire (if not a billionaire) and he had a love affair for the ages that lasted 30 years. And yet, apparently, he’s still not happy.
And in many ways, it’s not so hard to understand. There was never any way for him (or John) to follow the Beatles, the last real musical high point (and I’m thinking Band On The Run here) was 35 years ago, and that love affair was followed by the tabloid marriage to Heather Mills.
If Shakespeare were alive today, he’d write his fifth great tragedy about it.
I’m telling you, the guy needs a check-up from the neck-up.
“I’m telling you, the guy needs a check-up from the neck-up.”
I haven’t heard that expression in twenty years. You been hanging out with my Dad? That’s almost as funny as watching a certain unpopular politician dodge shoes.
It’s probably true. It seemed like Paul was more engaged in the world in the mid-60s. John was too busy raising Julian (woops, strike that). That doesn’t mean there’s any purpose to saying it now.
Paul is so insecure he may start hitting on Yoko now. Anything John can do, I can do better.
New revelations for Paul to share in future years:
“I had a ‘Fat Elvis’ period before John.”
“The only ‘bed-in’ I ever felt was worth staging was for a piece of ass.”
“I wore ‘granny glasses’ first, but Brian made me take them off for our Spain trip.”
