Let’s get it on, brothers and sisters. Plenty of choice material up there today, thanks to the contributions of our mighty Townspeople. We’ve only just begun. There’s no end in sight to the fine work ahead!

I’m in California. Is it legal to watch this video here?

I see the Zappa-Krappa poll is starting to tighten up. Make your vote count!
And don’t forget to register.

Come on Krappa constituents! This race is getting too close for comfort.
Not that I’m tipping my hand on my vote.
JOHNNY PULEO AND THE HARMONICA GANG!
Classic!

I would like to throw out a question to everybody here at RTH: If you were given a chance to hop on the way-back machine and attend either the Monterey or Woodstock festivals which one would you choose? I would choose Monterey because I would have loved to see Otis Redding live, as well as the Who & Hendrix at the exact moment they hit the US. Also, it seemed that Monterey was better run compared to the mud ‘n crowds at Woodstock. What sez you people?
Monterey for exactly the reasons you note, Diskojoe! I’d also have been able to see Eric Burdon and the Animals – the hippie period stuff of his I so dig – and if I had been really lucky I might have been able to witness – in person – Stephen Stills’ meltdown, the one that require Crosby and Nash to “love him out of it.”
A couple of summers ago we went on vacation in spots from San Francisco to Yosemite. I was really excited when we stopped in Monterey for a couple of days. Sadly, I didn’t see many traces of the festival I’d grown up thinking was so cool, but I was still excited knowing I’d been there.
Monterrey for sure. Acres of mud, no food, and bad brown acid don’t strike me as the makings of great memories.
Mr. Mod have I ever mentioned that either my third or fourth concert experience was Sky Pilot era Eric Burdon and the Animals? Envy me, not that I remember much of it of course….
Ugh. I guess Monterey, for Who/Otis/Jimi reasons. Oh, and the Association were pretty grand, as well. But, oh, do I hate that rockumentary. You want to know why hippies bug me so much? Watch that movie, and learn.
BigSteve, you have not mentioned that most likely excellent, mostly forgotten concert:)
Well, it was 40 years ago now. What I do remember is that the opening band was the Eire Appparent. We thought their songs were lame (to say nothing of their name), but we thought it was even lamer that they did Sunshine Of Your Love.
And I remember the Animals had a violinist, which was unheard-of at that time. And also there were projections of fighter pilot-type footage onto a backdrop for the psychedelic section of Sky Pilot. I assume they did San Franciscan Nights too.
This was an outdoor show in the u-shaped end zone of City Park Stadium in New Orleans, the small stadium where high schools played their football games.
And I believe that’s where my memory runs out.
Has anyone bought the Inara George album that just came out? The 2 copies my local ordered had sold out by the time I got there last night.
I’ve heard a couple cuts, and I like what I hear, but am interested in how the album as a whole sounds.
Monterey for sure. Ravi!

May I use this All-Star Jam space to remind newcomers to RTH that the “Latest comments” link at the top right of our Main Stage (https://www.rocktownhall.com/blogs/index.php?disp=comments) is a great place to keep abreast of the latest and greatest comments from Townspeople. It’s especially good when you can see that a Townsperson has responded to an old thread that has fallen off The Main Stage. You’ll note today, for instance, that a friendly, appropriately nerdy new participant to our discussion has been digging back into the archives, commenting, and even claiming some top spots on Last Man Standing competitions that some of you might have thought you’d had in the bag. Pretty cool!
Along the same lines of appreciating our Archives and the constant need to review important issues in rock, tomorrow we will run our second Friday Flashback post. Stay tuned!
I think it’s great that the genuine rock history obsessives strewn all over the place sometimes and maybe even often find their way here. You are not alone, Spaceballs. Phone home.
