“This record is the closest I’ve ever gotten to the sound I hear in my head in the middle of the night,” Chris Stamey says of his Yep Roc Records release, Lovesick Blues. “It’s always the quiet ones that sound the loudest in the dark.”
That is a wonderful essay! I’ll only comment on two specifics.
First, Robyn would appear to be a kindred spirit to some of us here: “There are records that I’ve liked since 1982 but I suppose new music has mattered less to me in the last 20 years or so. I don’t think it’s bad; I just don’t feel moved to get it.”
Second, in his comments on VU: ‘I asked Andrew Loog Oldham once, “Do you think all great bands hate each other?” and he just looked at me and said, “I hope so!”’ He goes back to the hate thing in discussing The Band.

“This record is the closest I’ve ever gotten to the sound I hear in my head in the middle of the night,” Chris Stamey says of his Yep Roc Records release, Lovesick Blues. “It’s always the quiet ones that sound the loudest in the dark.”
