Last week at a family Thanksgiving gathering, I heard about this rocker from Indiana.

    “John Hoosier Menstrualcramp”

  2. A couple of weeks ago a full-page ad for these headphones and Lou Reed’s integral role in “tuning” them appeared in the New York Times Sunday Magazine. I filed away the idea of crafting a “Lou Reed…As His Cans Were Meant to Sound!” piece, mostly poking fun at the text that accompanied the ad (in short, Lou’s tremendous contribution, beside talking about how much he cares about music sounding the way it was intended to sound, was to hand off the project to his engineer to actually do the work). After seeing how old and sick Lou looks in this video, though, it’s not worth it. It’s not often that we see a rocker in this naturally old and unvarnished a state. It wasn’t like I was surprised that Lou’s body gave out a little earlier than might have been expected if he didn’t trash it for years earlier, but seeing this footage of him makes his “sudden” death much easier to comprehend. People get old and die. It sucks.

  3. Barely looks like him. Or sounds like him.

And in death as a career move, I noticed RCA jumped right on it and re-released yesterday Playlist: The Very Best Of Lou Reed. I guess the other five that come up in amazon when you search “Lou Reed Best” weren’t sufficient…

  4. I am on a business trip and just saw a band at the Hard Rock in Louisville that had a former member of LA Guns and a former member of Faster Pussycat.

They were notable for playing the fastest version Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game I have ever heard.

With Nelson Mandela’s passing, perhaps it is time to review what might be the best, yet weirdest, all-star political cause song:

Where else will you see Lou Reed with his arm around John Oates? Does Bono steal the show as he did with the Band Aid song? Does the positive political message of the message get outweighed by the environmental damage due to overuse of Aqua Net?
