A bit away from music, but in an area close to Mr. Mod & many others here, it was sad to hear about the passing of Tony Gwynn yesterday. He was only 2 yrs. older than me. You NL peeps saw him a lot more than me, but I remember seeing the stats for best hitter & he was there year after year. A great hitter & from what I read about, a great man.
Indeed, diskojoe. I always liked watching him hit and hearing him talk baseball. When I saw that his lifetime BA was .338 and ranked 18th in MLB history, I thought, “If you weed out all the guys from the ‘black & white television days,’ I wonder how high he’d rank?” I just got a minute to look it up: he is #1, over Wade Boggs and Rod Carew, who finished at .328. Miguel Cabrera is the only active player batting over .320 (.321).
Yeah, very sad indeed, he was a tremendous hitter and by all accounts a good person. I believe he has the highest average of any post-WWII batter with more than some number of at bats. He and Boggs and Carew–an amazing trio–the only person comparable in recent years just as a mesmerizing batter was Ichiro in his prime.
BEHOLD McRORIE!!

That’s funny!

I saw Nick Cave on Monday and he was incredible. I’ve never seen him discussed here, but I must not be alone in being a fan of his, right?
Anyone in the L.A.-ish area want to see Robyn Hitchcock perform at McCabe’s guitar shop tomorrow night?
