Thanks for the vid! I’ve seen that one (maybe on the old list serve as a link?) I always loved the League of Gentlemen. I just ripped that lp into the computer a while back. Fripp is such ahorse’s ass and such an objectionable snot that I have always been baffled at the kick ass music he made for so long. I am a Crimson fan, and like his guitar with Eno, Bowie, Blondie, Daryl Hall, even the Roches. And when that League of Gentlemen album came out, I didn’t think it was perfect, but a lot of fun, and at the time it seemed to offer hope that the post-punk world had a place for people who knew how to play.

And, for what it’s worth, that particular group seemed fairly non-prock to me. Within their framework the rhythm section is pretty free, and a lot of transitions on stage seem to be signals back and forth from open-ended sections of things. Even Fripp’s own parts changed dramatically from night to night.

Lastly, that one shot of the audience reminds me of the kind of experiences I had at shows like that. O, so serious, and stock still. But then, Mr. Mod, remember being yelled at to dance at the Chris and Cosi show by annoying audience members who were irate because many of us were just as annoying as these people. In our defense, I only offer that we weren’t staring lie the adoration of the magi at Fripp’s immaculately knotted tie, but rather up Cosi’s unsubtly parted thighs to what we could nearly see. Like a basilisk holding a trumpet, she was.

In clarification, I think the prock concept is brilliant, but on RTH it is still being used to describe several different things, none of them quite what I mean by it. This could be the perfect state for, and perfect defense of, a term like this!

General, we do need to revisit that working definition of Prock. I’ll dig out our past efforts and maybe we can try to summarize where we’d gotten before moring forward. I’m still hopeful of us being able to thread all the specific characteristics I heel Prock artists of different genres share.

By the way, I was not at that Chris and Cosi show, sadly. I’ve heard you wax poetic on it many times, though.

What the hell was I doing at Chris and Cosi if you didn’t clue me in? Were you at the Fall show there? (Revival) I know you saw Pere Ubu there. I can’t imagine who went to the Chris and Cosi show with me. You definitely gave me my first songs by Throbbing Gristle on some mixes.

I don’t recall being at the Chris and Cosi show with you. The way you’ve descirbed it, I’d think I’d remember at least some of it. Along with the Pere Ubu show, the other show I remember seeing with you at Revival was Tuxedomoon. That was a great one too.

I never saw The Fall or even tried to see them on a night when Mark E. Smith bailed out on his fans.

I never got to see Psychic TV either, but a friend of mine saw them long ago, and he passed out from the visual-aural assault on the senses.
