Nothing’s stopping Yoko. What’s stopping you? The All-Star Jam is the place to do your thing.
Not enough time to use your Back Office privileges and craft a new thread? Throw the germs of your rock brilliance up here!
Some obscure rock figure die who we may not have heard about? May he or she rest in peace!
Relatively new to the Halls of Rock and ready to make your first splash? There’s no better place than here!
I’d like to spread some holiday cheer by officially registering a complaint about the latest comments section: for me, the comments get cut off by the column border, both in Google Chrome and Safari. The only browser where this doesn’t happen is Safari. Can we fix this?
Also, if there’s ever a vote, I’d like to cast one in favor or dropping the SNSI player at the foot of the page — or at least making it auto-shrink after a period of inactivity. But that’s a minor gripe. The “Latest Comments” problem is a significant source of RTH ass-pain.
Yours cheerfully,
HVB
Anybody got any good X-mas albums — new or obscure — to recommend? So far — I’ve done some new Rat Pack compilation, Mindy Smith’s new EP and her older “My Holiday” album, Ella, as much Brian Setzer Orch. as I could take, Dwight Yoakam’s ’97 X-mas album. JB’s Funky Christmas, Beach Boys and even some Chill Christmas albums. I need some Christmas Rock Therapy!
I posted this yesterday on last week’s All Star Jam. I’m reposting it here since I don’t know how many people ignore Bob Dylan and look back on week long threads (unlike hub I don’t use the most recent threads option but I do agree with him on the SNSI issue). Also reposting because of the overlap with Yoko.
I came across two great concise record reviews. I can’t wager an opinion on how much I agree or disagree with them, they just struck me as great lines.
From Rolling Stone and a review of the Avril Lavigne album (who is “assisted on nearly every track by new husband Chad Kroeger of Nickelback”): ‘Like a Canadian “Double Fantasy” – only much worse.’
And from Entertainment Weekly, in a review of The Wrong Side Of Heaven & The Righteous Side Of Hell by Five Finger Death Punch, a two disc set: ‘Like the White Album, if every song were “Rocky Racoon”.’
And related to the accompanying RTH poll, Rolling Stone had John Fogerty’s “Wrote A Song For Everyone” wherein he reprises his classic songs but with duet partners (like Kid Rock, Zac Brown, Foo Fighters, Keith Urban, Bob Seger) as their #10 album of the year while Entertainment Weekly had it as one of the 5 worst albums of the year. Haven’t heard it, but the concept makes me assume the Entertainment Weekly placement is more appropriate.
I’m a big fan of the Low Christmas album (one cheerful track, the rest more Low-esque), and for something more traditional, The Staples Singers album.
That seemed very “planned out”.
