Nothing cures the summer time doldrums like hopping in the car for a road trip.

I’m looking for songs containing the sounds of a car/motorcycle revving up and/or pealing out. The automotive sounds may be real or artificially created.

I’ll start off with the number one Billy Joel song that I love to hate: “Moving Out.”

A quibble about the Mod’s recent open letter to Robbie Robertson, in which he said: “you’ve… …written perhaps rock’s greatest story song ever, ‘The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.’” In the article linked to the Mod’s post, Bill Flannigan makes a similar assertion.

Now I like TNTDODD well enough (although it’s hardly among my favorite Band songs) but I don’t understand what the story is supposed to be. It just kind of runs through a bunch of Civil War images without any discernable plot (not unlike Thin Lizzy did with random Western images in the Cowboy Song). I would ask you to either explain the plot of this “story” to me or please refer to the song as “Rock’s Greatest Civil War Imagery Song” from now on.

In the meantime, I submit “Tom Ames Prayer,” one of a dozen or so songs by Steve Earle in which he tells a much more cohesive story than TNTDODD:

I’m looking for the make and model of car in the lyrics of a song. The lyrics must contain both. Makes maybe reused but not models, so once Ford Mustang is taken, the Pinto is still up for grabs but all other Mustangs are off the table.

The usual rules apply: only one answer per entry please and if you are the current Last Man Standing, please wait until somene else claims the title before submitting another entry.

I will start with Ford Mustang from Bowie’s “Young Americans.”

In the recent Last Man Standing about river songs, the Mississippi was only allowed to be mentioned once because there are so many songs that reference it, which got me wondering: Are there more songs about the Mississippi than all other river songs combined? I doubt it but I call upon my fellow townsfolk to settle the issue.  So, I’m looking for songs which either specifically mention the Mississippi, or that clearly reference it geographically

I’ll start with “Big River.”

One Mississippi…
