Not a lot to say, but I thought the Hall’s Prock enthusiasts might enjoy this, especially Travelin’ Townsman Hrrundivbakshi.

Welcome home, Townsman HVB. When you’re done airing out the Econoline, I need to know your thoughts on this clip.

I rather liked it, and was surprised at the UN-prock sentiments that seem to lie behind Partridge’s extremely prock songwriting. I suppose there are some things from which you just can’t escape, no matter how hard you try.

Incidentally, on my 5,600-mile roadtrip (and it’s an AIRSTREAM, not an Econoline!), I stopped off at the always-excellent Stax museum, and was dismayed to find the “Mach 2” label — used *incorrectly* to designate the second in a series of band configurations (the proper spelling of the misheard British term is “Mark II,” or “Mk. II”) — on one of the museum’s exhibits. One pertaining to the Bar-Kays, I think. Anyhow, I was dismayed. And sort of amused that this terminology has taken the following path into the music nerd lexicon:

196?: Deep Purple uses a ridiculous British industrial/automotive engineering and design term — “Mk. II” — to designate their second lineup, featuring Ian Gillan.

1983: The movie “Spinal Tap,” in a dig at the absurdity of Deep Purple’s choice of words, uses the term to describe the post-Tufnel lineup that plays during the amusement park/Jazz Odyssey scene, where they open up for a puppet show. NOTE: when David St. Hubbins says: “…you are witnesses at the birth of Spinal Tap Mk. II… hope you enjoy our new direction…” — hordes of American music nerds mishear the dialog and assume St. Hubbins is saying “Mach 2.”

21st century: Stax museum and numerous Townsmen intent on irritating me use the term “Mach 2” as though it means something. It does not!

There are many things we should all get angry about: Darfur, mass rape in the Congo, child labor in Mexico, Republican (and Democrat) demagoguery… AND THIS WHOLE “MACH 2” BUSINESS!

I have spoken. So et it be written, so let it be done!

    HVB

Thanks, Hrrundi, and sorry you had to get annoyed by one of your legendary pet peeves. They didn’t spell Entwistle’s name wrong too, did they? (Or is that one of mockcarr’s pet peeves?)

  4. Love the STAX Museum. Went there the day after recording at Sun.

I love that Andy and I play the same red tele
