What do you think of this tune? Only folks unaware of the artist are allowed to respond. It’s not a guessing a game. It’s a challenge to express your opinion without prejudice. So, who’s got big balls?

  1. Not bad. Has the “Ticket to Ride” beat. Nice jangle guitar. Vox are a little wimpy though.

I have no idea who does this song. At first, upon hearing the drum beat, I thought of Andyr, who finds this beat appropriate for almost any song. Then I started thinking it sounded a bit like an Andy Partridge demo for a Dukes of Stratosphear song, then the vocals came in an I thought of that Three O’Clock guy, whose vocals almost always bring a song down for me. All around pretty good, but points off for the combo of the Michael Quercio vox and the done-to-death “Ticket to Ride” beat.

On an “up” or “down” scale, I count these as two thumbs up and commend these gents for being the first to slap ’em on the table. For the record, andyr (first responder) has got the biggest balls of them all.

If you don’t roll yours out, we’ve got to assume that you don’t have any.

I loved it as much as I love any other band trying to sound like the Cavedogs sounding like Michael Penn sounding like Micheal Sweet sounding like Big Star sounding like The Raspberries sounding like Cheap Trick sounding like the Beatles. It’s the originality — the novelty, even — that really gets my toes a-tappin’ and my head a-bobbin’.

File under “not bad, but I don’t ever need to hear it again.”

  5. Couple points off for the dopey lyrics, but jangly guitars good, wimpy vocals good, Ringo drumming good, so…thumbs up. So I’m assuming the artist is someone thought of as horribly naff in RTHland, then.

That’s not really the Ticket to Ride drumbeat.

I can’t comment since I know this guy (REMOVED DUE TO SPOILER). In fact, I think I have the album with this on it.

  8. Oh, right. I have this album too, but I haven’t listened to it in ages. I repeat, thumbs up.

  9. I like it, but don’t know who it is and I very well may have this album in my collection, too, and just not spent that much time with it. Early on, I thought of the dB’s or that it was a lost Matthew Sweet demo, but now I’m leaning towards Let’s Active, though I’m probably wrong.

  10. Micheal Sweet

As in the singer from Stryper? I think you meant Matthew, hrrundi, but thanks for giving me a laugh in any case.

Yuck. If that ain’t Prock, I don’t know what is.

  12. Sorry – we’re supposed to comment on the song. Doesn’t totally suck – nice REM, “Green” era rip-off.

  13. I think I actually just heard the Byrds solo form 8 Miles high as well…

My friend, in Rock Town Hall, there’s rarely if ever a need to apologize for commenting on things beyond the thread itself. Frequently our best discussions take off from such unexpected points. Now Guadalcanal Diary was a pretty cool band I haven’t thought of in many moons… Keep the good stuff coming!
