Famed wrestling manager and early ’80s rock cross-hanger on Captain Lou Albano died this week. A lot can be learned about a Townsperson by determining whether knowledge of Captain Lou Albano first came to you through his profession as a wrestling manager, his work with NRBQ, or his work with Cyndi Lauper.
NEXT: Rock Town Hall’s Official Eulogy…
In related news, I was working with a dude who played in Lauper’s back up band recently, and he said she was a royal pain in the ass — a total bee – aye – tee – see – aitch diva of the highest order.
In contrast, I met Joey Spampinato a couple of weeks ago, and he was a totally nice guy.
Clearly, Albano had no lasting impact on the personality makeup of these two artists.
Always loved that NRBQ number. How I would’ve loved to watch Mod’s teeth grind as he watched Terry appear in that video with the kiddie cowboy hat on.
Off to write more horror movie music.

Oh, and in related related news: Joey had a signature from Paul McCartney on his bass. A mutual friend asked him when he got it, he said it was on a UK tour with some chick artist Joey was backing up (not his wife). Sir Paul is a big fan of the girlie (was it Skeeter Davis? Don’t remember), and asked her and the band to stop off at the Macca Mansion for an after-show party. Mutual friend asked: what did you guys do all night? Joey answered matter-of-factly that they mostly spent the night playing Beatles songs.
How cool would THAT be?
It’s amazing Captain Lou lived that long. He may be the last of the big three WWWF managers to die (Blassie and The Wizzard)
It would be great to see at his funeral where right before his coffin is lowered into the ground, The third executioner pops out from behind, distracts the audience, all the while Albano opens the coffin lid and pops the clergy member with a foreign object and then goes back in the coffin
