No, not that Paul!

“I just happened to look up, and I saw those guys walking across the street like a line of ducks,” Cole remembered. “A bunch of kooks, I called them, because they were rather radical-looking at that time. You didn’t walk around in London barefoot.”

I don’t know what to make of this.

NEW YORK (Billboard) – Actress Scarlett Johansson says Tom Waits has given the thumbs-up to her debut album, which features covers of 10 tunes written by the notoriously persnickety musician.

“Anywhere I Lay My Head” will be released May 20 via Atco/Rhino. David Bowie, whom Johansson met a party just prior to beginning work on the album, lends his distinctive vocals to the tracks “Falling Down” and “Fannin’ Street,” while Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner and members of the band Celebration contribute throughout. The album was produced by Dave Sitek of the New York rock band TV On The Radio.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Train wreck or triumph? Amy Winehouse, the soul singer whose messy personal life has ravaged her promising career, will emerge from a London rehab clinic later on Sunday to perform live via satellite at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

It is perhaps one of the most keenly anticipated appearances in the 50-year history of the music industry’s top awards show — and not just because she will likely sing her big hit, “Rehab.”

“I’m going to be glued to it,” said Howard Benson, a nominee for producer of the year. “She’s a real, true talent. Her personal stuff notwithstanding, her music definitely speaks from the heart.”

Truly, whether you like the music or not, does anyone share in Howard Benson’s mock-sincere anticipation about her heartfelt music?

Yes, accoring to NASA’s website, Beatles fans declared the day as such to commemorate the 40th anniversary of this song having been recorded. Check it out! As a lifelong Beatles fan, I wish I had been consulted, but I see no reason to object.

At 7:00 pm EST on Monday, NASA will beam this song “directly into deep space,” as NASA’s own website puts it. The song is going to be “aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is located 431 light years away from Earth.” Not even Jim Kirk got that far, did he? You know he and Bones were spinning Beatles records and debating their intricacies back in the day.

Old habits die hard, as medical examiners have concluded Ike Turner learned the hard way.

Speaking of old habits, a Townsman passed along the following press release of interest to more than a couple of us with a need for more, more, more and extra money to burn! Personally, I think the real oversight in the Costello reissue market is the lack of a remastered Taking Liberties. Back in the day, you were pretty cool – at least as cool as a Costello fan could be – if you owned that one. Read on!
