Sounds of the Hall in roughly 33 1/3 minutes!

In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In Mr. Moderator plays some of his selections for The Worst of the Best songs by favorite artists in his collection. You may remember this thread from earlier in the week, in which Townspeople chose their SINGLE WORST SONG from the prime era of 3 of their favorite bands. Tonight the Moderator airs some of his selections from among some of his cherished bands. You may suffer along with him or, who knows, you may find this the coolest collection of songs he’s ever played. Enjoy – and it’s never too late to add to the original thread or keep it going here.

In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In a thankful Mr. Moderator plays a varied mix of old, not quite as old, and even fairly new, reflecting along the way on electronics and Jimi Hendrix, who would have had a birthday later this month.

In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In ladymisskirroyale hosts the airing of a hand-selected post-punk mix offered to the Hall by noted rock historian and Friend of the Hall Simon Reynolds! This is some cool stuff that you may or may not be familiar with—and definitely something different than the Richard Baskin-oriented fare for which your regular host is known to spin.

If ladymisskirroyale, Simon Reynolds, and input by the legendary Mr. Royale are not enough to make you set aside some quality time with your computer, then you’ll want to tune in for your chance to win The Gift, perhaps the most treasured contest prize Rock Town Hall has known to date. Tune in and find out from ladymiss how you can win! (And if you missed the details, the goal is to identify the tracks played: artist and title. Post the playlist in the Comments section or email Mr. Moderator at mrmoderator (at) rocktownhall (dot) com.)

Can you believe it’s been a year of weekly Saturday Night Shut-In podcasts? Well, it has. This week Mr. Moderator and special guests bring you a very special broadcast coming at you LIVE from Urges in Atlantic City. He’ll share a rare, recently acquired slab of Thrifty Music and be joined by special guests Billy Bob Thornton, who’s written a fun, little ditty especially to commemorate our anniversary, and Andy Rooney.* He’ll end tonight’s episode with all the News From Rock Town Hall.

Saturday Night Shut-In is the Hall’s attempt at creating a virtual listening party. We talk a lot about music, but how often do we get to listen to it anymore—together? To date Townsman Hrrundivbakshi has manned the board for a few Thrifty Music editions, and next week promises a very special episode curated by the Royales, ladymiss and Mr. with a playlist hand selected by Friend of the Hall Simon Reynolds. I know the Web is loaded with high-tech virtual playlists tapped into Facebook, Twitter, and whatnot, but I continue to invite Townspeople to put together their own SNSI episode to share here in the Hall.

Thanks to all who contributed to this week’s anniversary episode and to those of you who have contributed to shows in our first year. You’ll probably want to share tonight’s episode with the family, maybe even invite a few neighbors over while you’re at it. Enjoy.

*NOTE: It’s unlikely Mr. Rooney will be able to join us tonight.

Celebrate our 1-year anniversary at Urges in Atlantic City!

Tomorrow night’s episode of Saturday Night Shut-In will be our 52nd consecutive broadcast, which by my math means we’ve hit the 1-year mark. Happy anniversary, SNSI! To celebrate the occasion we’re taking the crew to Urges in Atlantic City for a very special LIVE broadcast, featuring appropriately special guests and all the news from Rock Town Hall. Bring the family. Invite friends over. Heat up some apple cider or egg nog. Light a fire. Feel the warm glow of your tube amplifier. Saturday, November 5 at 6:00 pm EST.

If you want to make sure to catch this and future episodes of  Saturday Night Shut-In the Rock Town Hall feed will enable you to easily download episodes to your digital music player. In fact, you can even set your iTunes to search for an automatic download of each week’s podcast. Technology!

In this week’s Mischief Night Eve edition of Saturday Night Shut-In Mr. Moderator brings ROCKTOBER to a sobering crash, as he contemplates what’s really scary. It’s actually pretty simple. Some bone-chilling tunes will be broadcast, but probably not the kind you want to hear during this fun holiday time!

In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In Mr. Moderator broadcasts “LIVE” from the Coast of Loving, “Frisco,” as the natives call it, specifically! The Moderator is calling all Peace Warriors to tune in, turn on, and drop whatever it is you were doing. As an added bonus, for those curious to learn more about Eric Burdon & The (Then-)New Animals, you’ve come to the right episode.
