ALERT: There’s something happening here. Rock Town Hall is growin’ up. They said sit down and we stood up.

Welcome to RTH v.3: StickyRhino. The ever-changing world in which we live in. (StickyRhino is best viewed at a screen resolution of 1280 or higher.)
You won’t have to look too hard to orient yourself. The Rhino is a direct budding from DirtWeed and should in fact put to rest the long and hard fought flame wars of the AARP skin.
The gates of steel are being crashed Towsfolk. Hourly, by the throngs, rabid fans hell bent on devouring our unique brand of pablum are arriving. We are stardust. We are golden. We are half a million strong.* We can no longer fly under the radar. This is a call to action, fellow Townsfolk.
How you gonna come? With your hands on your head?
I don’t think so.
Revolution rock.
The time is nigh and we’re holding on.
The flag of piracy flies from our mast; our sails are set wing to wing.
RTH is a rolling stone that may not be gathering moss but is gathering up fun, knowledgeable voices like chips from a chocolate fireball.
In our ongoing mission to spread the word and offer sanctuary to like-minded rock fans we have entered into a firm handshake and a sudden look in the eye with the MOG Music Network. In exchange for adspace (which will either feature goods targeted to music freaks or public service announcements–fear not, there will be no shoot-the-monkey ads on our hallowed ground) RTH will be featured on the popular MOG blog. Teasers of our content on MOG will include links back to The Hall. Check them out if you so desire. MOG.
Treat me nice, says the party girl.
For those of you with a history in the Halls of Rock for even as far back as 1 year, imagine a Rock Town Hall without the contributions of newer Townspeople, like 2000Man, Alexmagic, Diskojoe, and Northvancoveman… Sure we attract an asshole here and there, shawnkilroy, but the net is a gain for all. Ask yourself how many more intelligent rock lovers are out there, seeking just the community we’ve created? By god, it is our duty to offer aid and comfort to these folks. This is a continued effort to bring in fresh voices and tap new perspectives on the music we spend an inordinate amount of time examining.
So trash those pictures of Chairman Mao, take up arms and fight the good fight gents (and ladies?). To infinity and beyond.
There are going to be bugs to crush so this is the place to expose them. In fact there is much that we were unable to test until we went “live.” So take it easy and don’t let the sound of our own wheels drive you crazy.
Here comes the sun, Townsfolk. Have faith.
After all, we are all
So very small
And the time that we have here
Should not be spent in fear
And to prove it, here’s Chandler from Friends to sing it to you.

Wow! This is so cool! Great job Back Office!
This is really cool! It’s like Dirt Weed and AARP morphed into something better. I think MOG will work out, too. I saw something about them a year or so ago, and they didn’t have much to do but they had a lot of ideas. I just checked it out a month or so ago, and killed a lot of time there. Last night I hit the MOG link from here and found a whole new way to waste time and fill my head with rock n roll.
My Rock Rown Hall is shaping up nicely!
I can’t view this properly. The posts are lining up so that I can’t read the text on the left side. What gives?
Onward & upward (especially if it gets some Bolan here)!
If you are looking for suggestions, then I’d request putting the links to navigate to the prior thread or the next thread back up top, not at the bottom. This new way I have to page down to find the link; the old way it’s right there.
cdm, did you try the usual fix first? Clear your internet cache, blow away your cookies and restart. If you’re using Internet Explorer I believe the common fix these days is “Use Firefox!”
I like Opera, and it looks like a million bucks on that.
This may just be because I’m forced to use IE7 on this work computer, but the Youtube windows don’t fully fit in the middle column, so those horizontal and vertical scroll bars show up on them.
If you are looking for suggestions, I’d kind of like to see “tags” on posts some day. Sort of like the Categories on the left side, so somone could go to a list of all posts about, say, Rock Hair or Cities, or get a collection of all the Last Man Standing or Lou Reed As He Was Meant To Sound posts.
cdm, let us know how the “clear cache” works.
I see what you mean about the YouTube windows not fitting, Alexmagic. That’s weird. It didn’t look that way during the testing phase. We’ll look into that and other suggestions, such as Tags, which The Back Office probably knows about but I do not. From what you describe it sounds like it could be useful to a lot of us rock researchers.
Al, I didn’t realize the previous/next links were now on the bottom. During testing, I didn’t see them at the top and had a note to see if we could restore them altogether.
…I’m so disoriented….I can hardly make out fellow Townsmen’s faces…..
Emptying cookies did not work but at the suggestion of 2kman, I downloaded Firefox. Now the text is lining up right but I don’t see any youtube videos. I wonder if I need some sort of plugin or something. I’ll keep poking around.
First Chess, then Mercury, now… Chrysalis?
Got it. I needed a plug in. Seems good now.
Hey — can’t we claim to have been governing the discourse of Rock since, like, 2003?
Were we actually “governing” the discourse back then or formulating potential policies, more like a Think Tank?
The Back Office is up and drinking coffee.
2K: U da man. Your David Sanborn box set is in the mail.
cdm: Can you tell us what plugin you requred in case someone else has the same issue?
Al: Putting those links back up top is on the to-do list.
alex: The YouTubes are fitting for me but some do show a scrollbar with a tiny bit of room. And then some don’t. So I get the gist of the problem. This issue is at the top of the list.
hr: Of those labels I think Mercury is the only active one but only as a subsidiary of Island which is probably a subsidiary of something else. But if we’re going for label analogies, I’d say we’re aiming much higher:
New skin looks/works just fine! Much easier on the eyes. What *is* that beast in the RSO logo?
The new format looks good, if a little busier. I wonder why updating always includes the goal of “More lights flashing at you from more locations than ever before.”
Somebody get this old man a cane.
Hey, meanstom — I can answer that one. It’s a Japanese papier-mache good luck doll. They normally have bobble-heads and big piles of stuff “riding” on their backs, but that’s what it is. See:
http://www.jbox.com/SEARCHES/licca/
This is why I come here:
I’m not sure what plug in it was. Java related I think but I wasn’t paying attention.
I thought the RSO logo was related to the golden calf scene featuring Edward G. Robinson in The Ten Commandments.
Hey, before these ch-ch-changes roll on and we get back to more important things, like Buckethead, I’d like to thank The Back Office for his HARD work, creativity, and great spirit. I’m as proud as ever of this place. I look forward to your collective effort at making me feel like I’m not alone in loving music – and loving to discuss music – the way I do.
Look. I’m not going to bullshit you. I don’t know you. I don’t know your work. And I think you are a very, very talented Moderator. And I’m never wrong about these things.
My wife and I come here all the time and I’ll tell you that the gaucho steak is won-derful.
ver-a nice
Judging by the poll results, it looks like folks aren’t having many problems. I hope the cache clearing and/or downloading of a necessary plug-in is doing the trick. Thanks.
I’m a little late here but it took me a while to figure out what was “bothering” me about the new design. I think it is generally great and usable but I think that what throws me off is that the sidebars are light in color and draw my eyes to them and the main content column is a darker shade…seems backwards to me.
Again – still plenty readable. Just thought I’d throw that out there. Carry on. Nevermind.
I channeled Ken Nordine about RTH this morning and his only complaint was about the color “Beige”…
”Impossible to understand beige, unless you stare at him hard, stare him right in his Whys. Unless you see beige in the serious beige-ness of being its beige self. More than anything, beige is careful, insanely so really, almost as careful as that shade of yellow that’s afraid. But beige is much sneakier than yellow, wants the entire everything to be as safe as yesterday is, now that right now is here. You know how flamboyant red can be? Humph, wouldn’t last a minute with beige, probably wouldn’t get past his secretary, miss always-light tan. Beige even thinks orange is a little too far out, the way its streak sunrise and sets. And the just the mention of green and beige sees purple, which also drives him into a rage…of course its only a beige rage. Not much strength to it. To be honest as lily white, the truth is that beige is anti-color, unless the color is right, unless the color is, beige. About as average as you can get away with seeing is the gray way beige likes to have things being.”
Nice one, db!
Mr. Moderator: Nice one, db!
All credit goes to Mr. Nordine. He still regularly does his radio thing, last I knew.
