Some time ago we discussed rock images, good and bad, that are burned in our brains. I mentioned an image from the Disco chapter of my high school-era edition of Rolling Stone’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock, or whatever it’s called. At the time another Townsman, maybe BigSteve, looked for the picture I described in his copy of the book, a different edition. He didn’t see it. It was probably too disturbing to publish in subsequent editions. Tonight I came across my ancient copy of this book and scanned in the image. I apologize in advance for any unrest this image might cause you over the next 30 years. Ready?
I don’t think I could ever fit into this scene.
Yeah, for me, it’s mainly due to the skeletal, bald & bearded creature standing in the left side of the frame. He’s just disturbing.
I do, though, remember another photo from that same essay that made me think I might actually want to check that scene out. Do you know what I’m talking about, Mod? A woman – dancing – a “wardrobe malfunction” that was decidedly purposeful. Caught my attention more than Astro-thing up there. And I’ve never forgotten either image.
Yes, bobby, that was also a highly memorable photo. Good memory!
Wow, Mod, thanks. That looks like loads of…er…fun…
I don’t know if this disturbing so much as weird:

Thanks again, Mod, for making me see that…

Memo to bald guy: it’s ok to have a sandwich or something every now and then.
It’s weird that the book’s fold makes the image creepier than if it was flat.
In addition to scanning the picture that Bittman suggested, and which I fondly remember, would you scan and post that full page picture of Jimmy Page and the Les Paul? It influenced me as much as any song ever has.
