There are so many reasons I love acid-enlightened Eric Burdon, from his “New Animals” period of “Sky Pilot” through the early Eric Burdon & War albums. I know most of my reasons are not convincing to sane rock fans, but the following is a rare live performance of Eric Burdon & War that skirts most of the odd reasons I love hippified Eric Burdon & War so. Trust me. Whether you dig the music or not, it’s simply rare to find a televised performance by any band that properly captures the cool little things that go on onstage. Enjoy.

Eric Burdon and War weren’t bad at all (I love “They Can’t Take Away Our Music”). However, I preferred War when they went their own way with albums like All Day Music and The World Is a Ghetto. On these albums, the vocals became a bit less predominate and the groove was able to come forward a bit.

  2. I agree completely! War by themselves was an excellent band.

I saw War this summer at my local Bluesfest, but they were called Lowrider Band. They mostly played extended versions of their hits. The vocals for Low Rider didn’t start until 6 minutes into the song.
Of the 8-9 guys on stage I couldn’t tell you who were the original members but they tight and funky.

I especially liked the moment when you could see the light bulb go on over the heads of War with the realization that Burdon is totally superfluous.
