Following the announcement coming out of Australia that Charlie Watts has quit The Rolling Stones and the counter-statement from the band, as reported in NME, that Charlie Watts has not indeed quit The Rolling Stones, legendary studio drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdie issued his own announcement:
Why don’t you use it?
“You know my number, boys. I’m ready to hit the road. Let’s stop the charade once and for all!“
Why does this make me think of Ms. Purdie from the Nutty Professor? It’s much more interesting to think of Stella Stevens in the early 60s than this guy.
The tag at the top of the screen bids me to remind all Townsmen that the Charlie Watts clip was filmed as part of GTK. GT-what? GTK was the acronym for Get to Know, a five minute musical clip that appeared on national, yes, national Australian television in the early 1970s.
So if you want to make a hog of yourself in a deeply pre-punk fashion, go straight to You Tube and search under the term: GTK. You will be astonished by what Australian families were shown so long ago.
I just did and a heap of Stones stuff comes up, including Mick Taylor interview, Jagger, live concerts, etc. The Stones toured here in 1973. But also look out for some of the Australians, Daddy Cool and Chain in particular.
