Fred Willard was great in Spinal Tap, but I’ll always remember him as the Ed MacMahon buffoon to Martin Mull’s Carson in Fernwood/America 2Night, which was on after reruns of You Bet Your Life on Channel 56 Boston late nights in the late 70s.
