Joss Stone comes of age and taps into an older generation’s Laugh-In/Goldie Hawn fixation.
This British, blue-eyed soul, teen diva has come of age now, right?

Wait, are you asking if you can date her? Quick – thoughts on Zooey Deschanel playing Joplin in the new biopic ‘Gospel According to Janis’
http://imdb.com/title/tt0384141/
I personally look forward to it because I a) LOVE Zooey Deschanel as an actress and persona (she’s in my favourite movie All the Real Girls), and b) I think she’ll do a fantastic job because she has a really cool band on the side, and a great smokey voice to boot!
I like Zooey Deschanel well enough, but I’m kind of weary of the whole Janis Joplin mythology, so I’m not too interested in the film.
More crucial for me is that, if this Mike Meyers Keith Moon biopic happens, Christopher Eccleston HAS to play Townshend!
Also, I’m very curious about the rumored Miles Davis biopic with Don Cheadle. How are they going to handle the fact that he pretty much just got meaner and meaner as he got older?
The problem with all the cute actresses who’ve been floated to play Janis is that they’re cute. Don’t get me wrong – Janis could pull off a boozy, flirtatious sex appeal, but in strict genetic terms, she was fairly homely. No offense intended. Can’t they find a homely yet oddly sexy woman to play her? Can my go-to girl for these types of roles, Toni Collette, sing?
That Moon bio may be the worst rock biopic ever made. Mike Myers and Jim Carey need to take a trip to the desert, drop peyote, and get their comic cries for help out of their system once and for all.
As for the Miles biopic, didn’t his 8th wife finally love him out of his nastiness? At least that’s what the screenwriters have in mind. I can see Cheadle as a scrawny 70-year-old man crying in the arms of a strong woman as I type.
Thanks for reminding me of that Oats, Christopher Eccleston as Townshend would be completely awesome, the nose, the eyes – where did you hear that?! I love that guy, he’s so strange and awesome, in a lot of movies that I like – Shallow Grave, Jude, Invisible Circus… I’m not really a huge Janis fan, but I really do think that this is a great movie pick for Zooey and that a lot of people will want to see it. That Miles Davis one sounds awesome too with Cheadle, he’s pretty much great at anything he’s in.
Yeah, Toni completely rules. I think she sang in that Connie & Carla, and I’m sure she’s got chops – but I’m stickin’ with Zooey.
Myers did a great job in 54, and I’m sure he could do it. I’m not sure who would play Moon though in general. I wouldn’t have picked Myers myself, but someone must have seen something. And Carrey, well – who would he play?
I’d cast Natasha Leon for Janis.
Oh! Inspired choice Sammy, but can she sing? Another one: Busy Phillips (the character Kim Kelley from Freaks & Geeks)
Also – wasn’t Renee Zellweger at some point slated for Janis? This just popped in my head…
Zellweger was going to give it all up to see her Janis biopic get made. How many times can she allow herself to gain 30 pounds and lose 35?
Mr. Mod, Ms. Stone is of age. May your Laugh-In fantasies run free.
