New Year’s Day. New resolutions, new frontiers, new behavior, new music.
Let’s start 2013 by thinking of all the songs that ring in the New. It’s a New Last Man Standing! Your challenge: to think of song titles that use the word “new.” I’ll start it off with the (very) obvious one:
“Brand New Cadillac,” making me the FIRST Last Man Standing of 2013!
Happy New Year, all!
“new toy,” Lena Lovitch!
Yes indeedy.
For those of you hoping for riches in 2013: “New Gold Dream,” Simple Minds.
“Life is short/Filled with stuff…”
The Cramps – ‘New Kind of Kick’
http://youtu.be/6XH2jt4NmOw
Melanie, “New Key.”
New Kid In Town
One of my most hated songs from my AM radio youth!
Iggy – ‘New Values’
Money Mark – “Pinto’s New Car”
Never tire of that song!
Talking Heads – “New Feeling”
The Who – ‘New Song’ (Which I just had to look up on YouTube because I couldn’t remember a thing about it, apart from the title.)
Lou Reed, “New Sensations”
Bob Dylan, New Morning
“New Rose,” The Damned.
“Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag”
“It’s the New Style ” – Beastie Boys
Hüsker Dü – ‘New Day Rising’

“New Speedway Boogie”
– The Grateful Dead
Donald Fagen – “New Frontier”
The Fall – It’s the New Thing
Elvis Costello – ‘New Lace Sleeves’
“New Sensation” – INXS
Radio Birdman – ‘New Race’
“I Want A New Drug” – Huey Lewis and the New(s)
Billy Bragg – ‘New England’
Jonathan Richman – “New England”
Sex Pistols – ‘New York’
OK, I retract that one. Probably shouldn’t accept entries based on place names (like New York) — can we get guidance on this?. The Billy Bragg song should be fine since it’s actually “A” New England and it’s talking about “a new England”. Whereas the Richman song is about the place New England.
New Dawn Fades – Joy Division
Oops! Strike that, I guess.
The Barbarians – ‘What the New Breed Say’
I can think of a lot of songs with New York in the title, yet they don’t seem to fit with the “new” theme inspired by the new year vibe etc. But who am I to say?
What’s New Pussycat? – Tom Jones
I think that we can use New York and New England for historical accuracy: they were settled and named as “new” versions of the old places.
That’s my take. Mod, do you want to rule on this?
“I Think I Need A New Heart” – Magnetic Fields
NRBQ – ‘New Tune’
The New Pollution – Beck
‘You Make Me Feel Brand New’ – The Stylistics
X – ‘The New World’
Olivia Tremor Control – “A New Day”
Bryan Ferry – New Town
Thomas Dolby!
Velvet Underground – “New Age”
The Specials – (Dawning of A) New Era
Camper Van Beethoven: “New Roman Times”
Jellyfish – New Mistake
Welcome aboard, jilmw – and a great song to boot!
Brand New Friend – Lloyd Cole
Love & Rockets – No New Tale to Tell
XTC – ‘New Town Animal’
Eurythmics – “Brand New Day”
“New New Minglewood Blues” – Grateful Dead
Dusty Springfield, “Brand New Me”
Brinsley Schwarz – Brand New You, Brand New Me
New Potato Caboose the Grateful Dead
New Mule Skinner Blues – Bill Monroe
I realize the jury is still out on this, but just in case:

Damn, I had that in my pocket.
Jonathan Richman “New Teller”
Tom Waits – ‘New Year’s Eve’
The Specials “(Dawn Of A) New Era”
Marshall Crenshaw – Brand New Lover
Mr. Parsons has a important role in “This Is 40.” Seen it yet?
J Dilla – “The New”
Felt – “A New Day Dawning”
You hadta bring Felt into this.
Hang on while I adjust my pince-nez, my dear…erhumm…That was Graham Parker.
Yeah, well, someone else I know had to drag ABBA into an otherwise hallowed forum.
Tom Petty next, anyone?
Bowie – “A New Career in a New Town” (double points)
A nice cheery song to start the new year with!
My extensive Tom Petty catalog reveals nothing with “new” in it.
(that would be called a “softball” tossed your way)
Beatles – What’s the new mary jane?
Buffalo Daughter – New Rock
Mark Hollis – “A New Jerusalem”
Velvet Underground — “New Age”
That one was added much earlier. This is getting tougher than I would have expected, especially since we’re withholding many of the possible “New [City]” entries.
Sorry about that. Let’s go with Jan and Dean — “New Girl in School”
Jeez, for a second, I thought there may have been some CGI magic involved in re-animating the exceedingly deceased (40 years) Mr. Parsons for a role that film.
The Rolling Stones – “New Faces”
Not yet but I’m looking forward to it.
Depeche Mode – New Life
Ah, the old Forrest Gump Experience.
Huh, posted before but it didn’t seem to take, trying again:
The Church: A New Season
Brand New Car – The Stones. Trust me, it’s way better than New Faces.
Stereolab – “New Orthophony”

Wouldn’t take much doing…
The Waco Brothers – “New Deal Blues”
Young Fresh Fellows “The New John Agar”
“New Mother Nature” Guess Who
Richard Hell and The Voidoids – New Pleasure
How about the rockin’ Howard Jones with “New Song.” Let’s not go out on this one, though.
How about this then: The Minutemen: Do You Want New Wave Or Do You Want The Truth?
Ben Vaughn, “New Wave Dancing”
Elliot Smith – New Monkey
The Dovells — “Do the New Continental”
Smithereens – “Something New”
That one was mentioned earlier.
The Waco Bros. (again) – “New Moon”
Young Marble Giants “Brand New World”
The A-Bones – “Betty Lou Got A New Tattoo”
Vampire Weekend – One (Blake’s Got A New Face)
Has the Rush thread distracted everyone from the obvious?
Rush – “New World Man”
The Mekons – “Hate Is The New Love”
The Kinks – there’s a new world opening for me
Pointed Sticks – New Ways
Was that before or after she got the new pair of shoes?
The Moody Blues — “New Horizons”
3 years after Neil’s Bobby Freeman cover…but, essentially the same song.
Mission of Burma – “New Disco”
Shawn Colvin – New Thing Now
Mr. Partridge, “New Broom”
LMS!
Hairspray Soundtrack — “The New Girl in Town”
I apologize in advance if this was mentioned already. The thread is getting too long to go over every time.
Nope, that’s a first in this thread. Bravo!
A little tip that I use when LMS threads get this long (probably obvious, but just in case it helps): I place my cursor at the top of the screen, hit Ctrl/F, then let the search window find the phrase I fear may have already been entered.
Thanks.
