   OMFG! I live in Melbourne and we view Sydney (yes, the Australian city on the postcard) with a certain detachment. As we say, take away the Opera House, the harbour, the bridge and beaches and what has Sydney got? Nothing. Sydney is long on glitz and short on cultural smarts. The Livid Festival, which Lou is curating, contains zero Australian content. Bizarre.

   Someone told me recently that Lou Reed was coming to Sydney to perform Metal Machine Music – with the aid of a string quartet. The poor art-starved people were going to pay for that particular pleasure. More fool them.

   But this one really takes the doggie biscuit. Yes, it’s a free concert, but I’m tipping that Lou and Laurie aren’t whipping up this little baby for nuthin’. Nor are they likely to be staying at the Bondi Beach backpackers.

   Maybe this sort of thing happens all the time in New York. Maybe they are trying it out in the provinces before taking it to the main stage (besides RTH, obviously).

   Or maybe, like the dogs, they are just taking the piss.
