Sometime today/tonight we’re going to attempt a monumental Back Office feat. Our goal is to move RTH off of the old and aging current platform onto a bright new shiny one. There will certainly be hitches some of which we are already aware of and will address as soon as possible but there will be others. Hopefully the ability to login and comment will remain active and we can use this thread to point out issues. In the unlikely case that login and/or comment is unavailable we will post updates here on the Main Stage to keep you up to date. In the even more unlikely case that the site is down altogether, please refer to the RTH Facebook page for updates: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Rock-Town-Hall/158988548773
Note that anytime over the next 24-48 hours comments and posts made may not make it to the new platform. Sadly this Foreigner vid will.
Thank you for your attention.
Be strong, Townspeople! There’s one feature in particular that I am sure will psych up those who like to comment on comments – and comment on comments on comments… Thanks for all you’ve been doing, The Back Office. I’m about to head out to the Phillies-Reds game!!!
Here’s my final comment within the confines of RTH Mercury:
(grunt… strain… heave…)
ALEX LIFESON!
(splash)
I hear the half speed DMM is better than the German True Stereo.
Is that true?
This, by the way, is what I was talking about: threaded comments (set for up to 5 levels of nerdy subthreads).
Am I wrong, or do you still have to navigate back to each individual “story” page to post a comment, or reply to somebody else’s?
I’m not sure if I understand your question. Right now I just hit Reply to this particular question of yours. If I had wanted to make a more general comment on this main post, I would have scrolled down to the bottom of this Comments page and inserted my comments to the main Comments box. This comments-within-comments feature can come in handy when people want to pick up on a particular thought from a comment.
Picking up on HVB’s question within my earlier comment, if I want to add a new line of thought I can do so here.

Typing in the formatting tags, I can still do this.
This looks pretty swell! Is that what the blockquote tag looks like?
Blockquote looks like this (blockquote)blah blah blah (/blockquote0
With the carrots “>” instead of parens “)” .
Radio Transmission•••••••••
If I want to comment on a comment found on this page:
https://www.rocktownhall.com/blogs/index.php/latest-comments/
… I can’t. I still have to go to the main “story page” for that topic.
That’s what I mean.
Threaded comments are only available on the post page. Latest Comments are only a list.
Aargh, I need an avatar? This may take a few days… Looking good.
New site looks good.
To celebrate, here’s a great little Lou Reed tidbit from a recent Gorillaz show.
“Mr. Reed got pride of place on Friday night; the show halted while his guitar rig and pedals were set up so that he could unleash a mighty scrabbling noise to start “Some Kind of Nature,” which also featured his cranky lead vocal.”

This is Oats, btw. I need to change my onscreen name, it looks like.
I see what you mean. Thanks.
I was able to change it for these posts. It looks like your “onscreen” name field is as you want it. Maybe you already went into your profile and changed it. We’ll keep an eye on these things. Thanks.
HVB et al: Title lines in Latest Comments are now direct links to that comment.
I want to see how multiple comments inside of comments look.
Will the boxes get progressively and infinitely smaller?
5 is the current max level for comments inside of comments. Seems about right. Anymore and it will look even more ridiculous.
Yes, I was able to change the capitalization of my screen name myself.
And my avatar displays retroactively.
Any suggestions for avatar images are greatly appreciated.
And didn’t Thomas Dolby produce “Urgent”?
Thomas Dolby played keyboards on Urgent, but didn’t produce it. He made big contributions to “waiting for a girl like you.” While I’m at it, he also played keys on Joan Armatrading’s tune “Walk Under Ladders” and wrote and played on Lena Lovitch’s hit, “New Toy.”
Thomas Dolby and I have the same birthday (but not year), which is this week.
Thomas Dolby! Now there’s The Prock Hero That Time Forgot.
Dolby wrote “New Toy”? I did not know that. That almost cancels out any guilt by association with Waiting for a Girl Like You.
All these revelations about Thomas Dolby!
And I thought it was all about Prefab Sprout’s Steve McQueen album. That Foreigner connection may cause a re-think.
