I’m glad so many of my brethren in Rock are finally getting over the electricity/gas/flooded basement pain that Sandy left in her wake. Having said that: suck on this — Mike Love‘s tasteful ode to female masturbation, “Rockin’ the Man In the Boat,” from his 1980 solo LP, Looking Back With Love. The lyrics, as you can imagine, are key to enjoyment of this song. Be sure to hang around for one of the later verses, where Love explains exactly how he knows about the main protagonist’s, uh, “habit.” That particular moment literally caused my wife to shudder with revulsion.
Just wanted to show you fine people that thrifting for vinyl ain’t always a walk in the park.
I look forward to your responses.

That is one of the creepiest, most revolting things I’ve heard in a long time. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to listen to the Hues Corporation’s “Rock The Boat” in the same way ever again.
Thank goodness, Cyndi Lauper has her own ode to woman taking things into their own hands. Just sit back and count the visual puns:

All right, the “telescopin’ love” part just ain’t right, but what’s wrong with a man supporting a woman’s right to please herself?
Musically, this track wouldn’t sound out of place on a later Apples in Stereo album.
Okay, this song might qualify for the worst self-reference ever. He really had to work “good vibration” into the song, didn’t he? It sounds like a song Steve Carell’s character in “The Forty Year Old Virgin” would have written.
And can you believe this nimrod supported the PMRC. Slap a sticker on this song Mike because I’m seriously disturbed.
Wow, that’s what that song was about? I’d never heard it all the way through, or if I did I blocked out actually hearing it. I’d never seen that video before. I went through the ’80s in a cocoon.
After listening to this, I don’t think I’ll ever feel clean again…
I don’t think I ever did, either. It’s only slightly less creepy than Mike Love in the fact that now I that I’ve seen the video I’m reminded that Capt. Lou Albano bops, too.
Since I don’t need any further evidence of how loathsome he is, I’ll take a pass on this one. The lp cover alone has me queasy, and the Dodger’s cap doesn’t help; though it makes me think that the Loveman and Steve Garvey would have made a good pair out on the town, ca. 1980.
Now that’s what I call Yaaahct Rock!
And here I thought “Sloop John B” was also about a boat. Well…I won’t get fooled again!
