Should we talk about the newest Crowded House single? It was greeted with a general “meh” from the online musical circles I frequent. I wonder if it’s a bit of a “feeler,” since it’s not the type of catchy song that is usually picked for a single (IMO sometimes patronizingly so). This lineup of the band is Nick Seymour, whose presence is what makes it CH, I suppose, plus Neil’s two sons Elroy (who put out a vibey solo album a few years back) and Liam (whose solo music I want to like more), plus occasional RTH target, Mitchell Froom on keys. I’ll refrain from commenting further right now but give a listen:
That’s fantastic. Funny, for the past year, there have been a lot of late nights after everyone else has gone to bed where i’ve watched videos of the same 7 or 8 songs over and over. Don’t Dream It’s Over is one of them but I’ve never seen this version. Beautiful.
I liked the video for that new single better than the song. The song was OK, but I think it’s hard to base a song so strongly around the chorus. Charlie Rich’s “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” is about 80% chorus. That works for me. This song…meh.
