I have a confession to make. The last Mystery Date (The Sunbirds) was a mistake. I posted the wrong track and by the time I figured it out, someone had already commented so I had to play it cool. It was a lame Mystery Date and I’m sorry.
Below is the track I meant to post and this is a killer Mystery Date because everyone here knows the artist behind this song AND knows a great cover of another song by same. So let the games begin. If you know it, zip it.
This is cool, but I’ve never heard it before. It sounds like The New York Dolls trying to do their take on MC5’s second album, the poppy one that I think is their best. (Sorry, I’m blanking on the name.)
Haven’t a clue. To me it sounds like what happens when Blue Cheer and the Four Seasons drop acid together.
Mod, you know I love you but I don’t think you could be further from the truth if you had said Vanilla Fudge trying to do the Starland Vocal Band.
HVB- I am very pleased that you are off base as well (though not as far as Mod) as of all Townsmen, I thought you’d not only know this but own it.
As for the rest of you who are too weak to drop their stones on the table, shame on you.
The fact that you thought I’d own it leads me to wonder if Jeff Lynne is somehow involved. There’s a bit of that pre-ELO, maybe even pre-Idle Race vibe in there. Am I getting warmer?
It’s Manfred Mann right?
HVB- ELO is way off. You underestimate the sense I’ve gleaned of your tastes. Don’t confuse me with those that would force you into a tri-cornered package. I KNOW you to be much more complex.
kilroy- You are on the playing field with that guess. In fact I’d say that you are taking a healthy lead off of second base. I would find it hard to believe that the artist in question was not only aware of but influenced by MM or at least that whole scene man.
Hey, big dis on Mr. Mod, but I heard MC5 in there too, before I read his comment.
The =s
Well then, dis on you too geo. But giant kudos for owning up. Bravo.
The rest of you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Too scared to even try? Or does everyone here know who it is?
Sly one mockcarr. Are you guessing or are you spoiling?
Oh, MAN. If mockcarr’s guess is correct, I SHOULD know this tune! And by the way, how would Mockcarr know this song?!
And by the by the way, Mockles: how about the $50 offer on your cheezeball bass amp?
I’m spoiling. My nads were just getting angry since they were not going to show up on the table through fair means.
What 50 dollar offer, and WHICH cheezeball bass amp? The cube one already in your studio? If so, then yes. The Bassman sucks too, but I need to listen to what I play once in a while, although I’m sure it never seems like it to anyone else in earshot. This implies, somebody else wants that thing. That’s harder to imagine than me knowing an obscure Eddy Grant song.
Negative points for mockcarr-the-spoiler. I’m sorry Townsman but we have very strict rules here in the Hall when it comes to spoiling.
Your penance will be forthcoming.
sounds a bit like the Flamin’ Groovies to me…
am I hot or cold?
The thing I’ve learned from this thread is that Geo is my man. That meant a lot, brother.
