It’s lame, but not exactly out-of-character, even though I like Cheap Trick a lot. I guess they feel they’ve got mouths to feed, so sometimes they tour with Guided by Voices, and sometimes with Poison. And sometimes they do stuff like this. If you think about it, they are kinda geniuses at branding and keeping their ship afloat, despite not having any real hits since late-’80s or whenever.
I would like to hear Van do Blood on the Tracks. Seriously. I wouldn’t even mind if he interpolated one of those long “Summertime in England” raps into the middle of Shelter from the Storm or something.
Inspired by the other thread, I really would pay $150 to see/hear Quasi play the entirety of All Things Must Pass, including whatever they would do with the Apple Jam.
I would also pay $150 to see a fully reformed Blur play the entirety of the Kinks’ Arthur.
I would probably pay $150 to see Beck play the entirety of that 4-disc Monkees’ Listen To The Band anthology. I don’t know, I might not pay that much to sit through it, but I’d pay him $150 to do it so that I knew it happened and there would be Youtube videos of him doing “Steam Engine” and “Going Down” as a result.
As always your thoroughness and enthusiasm are enlightening, mr. magic. You have inspired me to give it greater thought and after much consideration I’d like to add:
Robyn Hitchcock and the Venus 3 performing Syd Barret’s “Barret” in it’s entirety. In fact I think I’d pay $300 for good seats.
The Beastie Boys performing Talking Head’s “More Songs About Buildings & Food”.
I know you would, more or less, but some of that $150 may be needed to convince you to sing the occasional bad poetry breaks. What would be leftover could go to pay the Shaman!
Would you pay $150 to hear Paul McCartney play The Beatles? Who’s considering attending the show described below?
Paul McCartney will bring his “Up and Coming” tour to Philadelphia for a performance August 14th at the Wachovia Center.
Oh yeah, tickets. They’ll go for $65, $95, and $150 each when they go on sale starting June 21st — or 10 days earlier if you have an American Express card.
On the tangent explored above with the Monkees, I’d pay $150 for Sting, Bono, and Celine Dion to perorm Wagner’s Ring des Niebelungs. If you locked every executive and lawyer from every major label in the last 10 years in Bayreuth for the 17 or so hours it would take, and if I could be far, far away. It would also leave them with some great tapes to use for keeping folks awake for weeks on end at Gitmo.

Is it me, or have they *finally* started to look old?
Did you attend this show, sammy?
For $150 I’d pay to see Pere Ubu play Captain Beefheart’s Doc at the Radar Station.
I’d pay $150 to see Phish play Quadrophenia. Oh wait, that already happened.
I did not see this show but I’ll admit that I would like to. Though $150 is a bit steep.
I’d definitely pay $150 to see XTC play Magical Mystery Tour (true German stereo mix.)
I’d pay $150 to see Fishbone cover “Five Leaves Left.”
Great idea che! I’ll second that one. 🙂
id pay $150 to see Super Furry Animals play Car, Scratch, Melt and Security by Peter Gabriel.

I’d pay my bandmates $150 to cover Morrison Hotel!
Mr Mod – you know I would play that for free. Just give me a month to grow my beard
