Townsman dbuskirk sent me the following clip, which I believe addresses some of the simmering concerns that have arisen from the open forum in tribute to The Minutemen. Mad props to db, Alan Watts, and the South Park creators for identifying this common RTH dynamic.
Isn’t I know what you’re thinking: No, it’s not Watts the guy whose voice is was used on Fripp’s The League of Gentlemen album? but J.G. Bennett.
I’ve never heard it expressed in this vocabulary, but yes we all know what he means. And btw the voice on the Fripp record is J.G. Bennett.
I would like to take a moment to announce that the Cubs have just signed a right fielder with the truly excellent surname “Fukudome.”
– the Cubs have just signed a right fielder with the truly excellent surname “Fukudome.”
What are they going to do with Matt Murton? Beats the Fukudome.
My favorite comment so far has been “But what does he have against domes?” There has also been much merriment along the lines of “Mad Max Beyond Fukudome.”
It works twice actually, fuk-u/do-me, kind of like Peter O’Toole.
Now they need to sign a Russian named Pisov.
My favorite is still Putz from Seattle.
Incidentally, in relation to the current poll, I have a new corollary to the “no bands named after a place” rule: It is acceptable to name your band after a geographical location, IF YOU DO NOT HAIL FROM THAT GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION YOURSELF!
This may now be known as The Manitoba Exemption.
