Rock's first caped crusader?

Would the first cape in rock have been worn by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins? I think he beat James Brown to the punch, and although I’ve seen another ’50s contemporary, Little Richard, flash a cape, his cape-wearing days may not have started until the late-’60s/early ’70s, as part of the age of the Funk Cape, which we’ll cover in a bit.

  1. How about the Count Five? I don’t know if they wore them on stage but they had them in the promo pictures.

  2. THAT must be the obvious garage rock band I had in mind! Thank you.

  3. An answered prayer? Did I actually just see a teaser of My Morning Jacket on Letterman with the singer hopping around stage in a cape?
