This week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In features a mellowed Mr. Moderator, who’s smarting slightly from the news that the beloved Steppenwolf Live album of his youth was actually one of those fake, in-studio “live” albums, with overdubbed audience noises. Fear not, your host doesn’t harp on this news, but I think it affects the evening’s overall mood. Before this realization gets him down, however, there’s some ’80s neo-garage-psych, a stunning instrumental from someone called Delicate Steve, and more.

Nice show, Mod. I especially liked that opening track by Plasticland.
Thanks, also, for the Broadcast shout out. BTW, I took a risk on their last album with the Focus Group “…Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age.” Not easy listening but some interesting stuff. It’s reminding me of the scope of Barry Adamson’s “Moss Side Stories;” there are interesting musical motifs that run through it, such as middle eastern flute music, bird sounds, ye olde English choral arrangements, etc. I’m still wrapping my head around it.
This is really cool, Mod!
ladymiss, I was VERY bummed about the death of Trish Keenan. They were probably my favorite band of this decade. I found “ha ha sound” at the local record store and have loved them ever since.
i felt pretty much the same way as you about “Witch Cults” when i first pulled it off the web. But have you listened on headphones while out of the house, yet? It’s better for me in that context…
I called her “Tracy,” didn’t I? Shoot. Oh well, it’s the thought – and the music – that count.
Nice show — I had never listened to Broadcast until I read about Keenan’s death. They do have some good songs.
Long list of people who I found out died and then listened to their stuff . . . one is Elliott Smith. Saw him on the Oscars that one year, but until he died, never really listened to him until he died.
Cool, I THOUGHT that was the Prisoners. I like that WiserMiserDemelza album I have a lot.
