In this week’s edition of Saturday Night Shut-In Mr. Moderator reveals the identity of yesterday’s Mystery Date, a coming interview with a Very Special Person in our recent Nuggets showdown, the most annoying thing David Bowie’s ever done to him, and the most heinous prison experience that can never be shown on film!

I was digging that Matthew Friedberger track, and it turned out you were only playing it to cut it off. It sounded like a slightly more conventional Residents number. I like that Bowie track too, so I think the concept of this show was stuff that annoys you but entertains me.
I do like the way recent shows have set time aside for some irie music.
I didn’t cut it off. That’s how it ended. I was most annoyed by my inability, an hour earlier, to download his sister’s solo album. And I like that Bowie song. Thanks for listening.
And btw the reason Malkmus isn’t on emusic anymore is that the Matador, Merge, Domino, and XL labels all bailed when the site made the change to a more major label focus and to $ rather than downloads.
That’s what I was afraid of. I’m really getting sick of that service.
I liked the Friedberger track, too. It didn’t really seem typical Mod and I was impressed that you were branching out. Even accidentally. And like BigSteve, I’m a fan of “DJ” – I thought you would play something off of “Let’s Dance.”
I have to admit that that crazy Michael Yonkers Band album has sort of grown on me. I bought the cd for Mr. Royale for his birthday – the record clerk and the obscure record store I like to frequent in SF also recommended it. MY’s voice bugs me but his story is so interesting: going from guitar playing and guitar fabricating to modern dance due to a back injury. Apparently the guy still makes music, too. Thanks for playing “Microminiature Love” which is my favorite track. I also liked “Boy In the Sandbox” because of the caterwauling at the end. His political views are certainly very evident via the song lyrics on the album. I was hoping HVB would have known of MY and am still holding out that a Haller can add some info about teh guy’s dosier.
I’ve got a bunch of Residents albums. I’m all for annoying. I think that guy delights in annoying listeners. There are some other songs on that album I like better at this time in my life, especially today, when I wanted to be hearing the sister’s more appealing voice. Guess I need to download some stuff from iTunes, with all their proprietary jazz.
Hey, I just saw that our man 2k has a new blog, Dropped for Negligible Interest. Check it out from our blogroll of RTH links!
Cool – thanks for alerting!
Mod, I share your annoyance over the alteration of ChangesOneBowie–not to mention the scrapping altogether of the very good ChangesTwoBowie–but the icing on the cake is the replacement of Fame with “Fame ’90 remix.” It just makes me angry.
Ugh, “Fame ’90” – I forgot about that! Make me wanna holler…
