Hell yeah! I can breathe easier tonight.
From Boston, I can only say how pleased I am that you can breathe easier.
What did you think of Francona being shown the door? He was despised in Philadelphia, but he seemed like a magic man for the Red Sox. I was surprised he wasn’t given another year.
What do I think…Mod, don’t get me going. I have never witnessed anything like the last month of the Red Sox. It seemed almost as if they had metamorphosed into the red & blue capped, pullover wearing, 25 players 25 cabs choke artists of the 70s. I can’t exempt Francona, who has mostly done a fantastic job here, from blame: he kept sending Wakefield out to chase after win 200 (but they were cruising along at the time and who cared?), he seems to have had some share in the lousy start they got off to and the cataclysmic finish. Lots of stuff coming out now about clubhouse problems. He is not exactly a a hardass; he seems to respect players and expects respect back, and it doesn’t look like that approach worked with this lot. But I am not sure how much he can be blamed for Bucholtz getting hurt, Lackey’s off-the-charts sucking, Wakefield’s still being on the team, Beckett and Lester failing to come up big when they were most needed down the stretch, the failure to acquire any real help at the trade deadline, etc. I know there are some losers around here who actually relish this–“these are the Sox we know, they’ll rip yer haahht out!” So this just pisses me off.
I feel for you, misterioso. I thought the acquisition of Bedard spelled doom for the Red Sox this year. Some day a stat needs to be developed to chart Bad Mojo vs Good Mojo. I would bet Bedard would go off the charts for Bad Mojo. Why any team would ever give him a contract is beyond me.
It will be interesting to see Francona land with a regular team. He took over an already strong Sox team and let them play to their abilities. His Phillies teams were terrible. I’d love to see him land with one of the Chicago teams and see what he could do with a mediocre roster.
Could you remind us who performed that last track?
That was Richard Baskin doing one of his haunting tunes from the Welcome to LA soundtrack.
Breaking news: Raul has switched walkup music from a Pearl Jam sing to Gimme Shelter.
