Sounds of the Hall in roughly 33 1/3 minutes!

This one’s a bit lengthy, but it’s one of those “if you don’t like what you hear, stick around cuz it’ll change” kind of things.

Great mix, Slim! I even recognized most of the music…

    A couple of thoughts:
    1. What was it with the James Gang/Joe Walsh “Puerto Rican break?” I’ve listened to that song seemingly a million times and never really thought until now how odd it was to have that latin infusion there. What was it with the 70’s and latin music making it’s way into Rock. Was this just a response to Santana?

    2. That reggae song that you said was called “Musical Resurrection” I knew a different version, one I always referred to as “that song at the end of ‘Slacker’ when they throw the camera off the cliff” since I didn’t know the name. I just did a little research and apparently the song, “Skokiaan” was covered by Louis Armstrong, Bill Haley, Herb Alpert among others. Did you other RTHers know that song? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skokiaan

    3. I dug that Graham Coxon song. It makes me realize how much I like what you called “Beautiful Vitriol.” I would put songs such as The Pixies, “Something Against You” in that camp. Are there other songs that any of you would put in this Beautiful Vitriol camp? I’m thinking that the main ingredient is noisy aggression leavened with some melody, but perhaps others would have their own take?

  2. Finally getting a chance to listen on a gloomy day while wrapping up work and preparing dinner. I’m in a lousy mood, and this mix is working well. Halfway through, the Zoviet France song really caught my ear. Is that typical of them?

    Top notch mix.

The Tiger song by Cheeseburger is my latest anthem for strutting around the house. Curious to think about what would happen if Alex Chilton stayed sober and kept Big Star going with Van Duren as co-writer. There was at least a couple good pop albums left in him.

  4. mmmmm…sort of. This track (which I only played half of) is from an album called “The Decriminalisation of Country Music”. It’s typical of them in terms of scratchy, creepy, Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Eraserhead-type industrial noises. If you like that slide kind of aspect, check out Sun City Girls, or their guitarist Sir Richard Bishop’s stuff.

  5. Thanks, yeah, Tiger gets my Stooges vibe going.

  6. Whoa, The Back Office has something cooking with a player that opens at the bottom of the window. Do tell, Back Office. I saw something bubbling down there this afternoon, but not the full monty that I see now.

  7. Whoa! That’s pretty bitchin’!

  8. The Back Office

I thought I had it doing everything I wanted it to but just discovered one big fault. I was actually typing a post about the new stuff when I realized it. Accidentally posted it, that would be the first mistake that The Back Office has ever made, and Slim Jade commented.

    Hi Slim!

Had to take the post down though and try and fix this last thing.

Or maybe I’ll announce it anyway and fix it on the go or…

    It’s late here in Taipei.
