I’m Your Man – Richard Hell and The Voidoids
I’m The Man Who Loves You – Wilco
I’m Her Man – Canned Heat
Do I have to be the one to say it? You’re the man.
cliff, can you tell me something about the band the Rhythm Method? It’s like one of those band names I must have bypassed in cutout bins for years. I can’t place them, their era, etc, but that song was catchy and a very good cross-section of the set’s songs.
Man, that XTC song demonstrates so many of the highs and lows that later-period XTC dragged me through. That “Yeah, what do you think of that” part needs to be erase from the song. It bums me out every chorus; maybe if they’d only used it at the end, but having it on every chorus sounds as programmed as the drums on the later albums. That said, the verse melody is typically excellent and the build-ups to the chorus are good and very much in XTC’s wheelhouse.
Finally, gotta love any episode that includes some Canned Heat!
It’s worse: it’s “yeah, what do you think to that?” … which is a very twee way of saying what you assumed AP was saying.
Thanks for the illumination. That’s even more troubling.
Mod,
I can’t tell if that line about Canned Heat is a little sarcastic. They’re one those no-nonsense bands that’s just…there you know. They had their time and purpose.
Rhythm Method graduated out of the Detroit bar scene in the early 80’s. They blended early U2 with a midwestern rock sensibility. Their 2 EP’s Paquet de Cinq and Esprit de Corps drew a fervent local following. Unfortunately they changed their name to Rhythm Corps and slicked up their image. This video captures that moment, leather trench coats and all.

Their major league debut album scored the national hit “Common Ground”. But like I said, overproduced.

I sincerely get a kick out of Canned Heat while, at the same time, getting a sincere laugh over them. I’m a sucker for the boogie.
