A friend and I were discussing The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour album, which we both think is pretty great and each had in the back of our minds during that hypothetical discussion from a few days ago. Tracks like “Your Mother Should Know” and “Fool on the Hill” came up, and we admitted to each other for the first time, after 25 years of friendship, that we liked even those songs. Then one of us said, “That getting around will get you a critical rock wedgie!” Go ahead and try it, and while you’re at it, what song that you secretly like begs for a critical rock wedgie?
Count me in on liking those tracks. Paul’s “ditties” work in the context of MMT (better than on any other album) and, in this context, are parts of the overall psychedelia.
Also MMT is my 4th favorite Beatles album and I love the movie.
Good luck with the wedgie. I’m going commando for this comment.
It’s another Paul tune: Martha My Dear.
I don’t love the movie in question.
this is the “guilty pleasure” idea, but from a critical angle, yeah?
well alright then.
hmmm…..critics were never fond of “yes”, especially “Tales from topographic Oceans”. but, hey, lookit me, i’ve always LOVED that stuff.
ouch, my crotch hurts.
I like “Angie”, so go ahead and give me that wedgie, Mod!

That’s a good way to put it, yes.
Mental Hopscotch by Missing Persons. Hey, in my defense, Terry Bozzio played for Frank Zappa! Dale Bozzio posed nude in Hustler!
Awww….there’s no defense. Just remove what little credibility I had and gimme my wedgie and get it over with. It coulda been wose, it coulda been a swirly.
I’m down with anything on Blondes Have More Fun – it’s all my mum’s fault!! It still makes me giggle to hear “If You Think I’m Sexy”
I’m gonna hide in the bathroom until this is all over. I’m taking my bra with me.
“Your Mother Should Know” is great but “Fool On The Hill” is probably my least favorite Fabs song…or at least tied with “Got to Get You…”
I’ll second Tom’s vote for “Angie”. I love that song – one of my fav jagger vocal performances
You better hike those jeans up high at our next rehearsal, Andyr!
Tons of songs I like qualify for this, but the one that comes into my mind now is Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth”. That must call for an atomic wedgie or something. 🙂
I think that’s a SUPER atomic wedgie!!!;)
Does my love of “Ride Captain Ride” qualify?
Sit tight in your seat, Oats!
Now, I like a lot of AC/DC songs, but if an AC/DC song comes on the radio in the car and some tool says, “Wow man, great fucking song,” pull over and give that guy a wedgie instantly. This is particularly true if the tool in question is over 40.
Hey, Mwall — what the fuck are you on about now? It’s okay to “like” AC/DC songs, but not to say they’re great? You mean like with a capital “G”? What? Is one supposed to “outgrow” music? I’m sure you’d agree that lots of music — for whatever reason — keeps being good long after your teenage hormones have subsided.
I guess my point is: a lot of my teenage faves turned out to suck — I mean, I cannot think of a single Pat Travers song worth listening to. But AC/DC is *not* in this category. Like I say: what the fuck are you on about now?
My point is that you have a wedgie coming your way.
I haven’t heard Pat Travers Band’s “Boom Boom (Out Goes the Light)” for close to 30 years, but I sense it would still be worth a rocking chuckle.
