Here’s a follow-up message I received from RTH Labs Senior Analyst Milo T. Frobisher this morning:
Greetings, Hrrundi!
Well, I see that the pale and pasty residents of the Hall have acquitted themselves surprisingly well on our most recent laboratory challenge. Nevertheless, I suspect many will be surprised when they hear the songs that continue to mystify them — once they hear them “forwards.” Would you be so kind as to post the collage I sent, in “forwards” mode?
Thank you again for your dedicated service to the scientific pursuit of rock and roll.
Sincerely,
Milo T. Frobisher

Milo’s wish, as always, is my command. Here’s the file in question.

Come on, guys — I want to see how many of these you get *frontwards*.
HVB
I definitely hear “Twist and Crawl” by The English Beat.
Do I hear “Me and Bobby McGee”?
Now, are you going to beat up on me again, Hrrundi? I’m gun shy!
Oh, Mod… so close AGAIN. The Beat song is “right band, wrong song.” You are, sadly, more incorrect about “Me & Bobby McGee.”
I believe in you, Mod! Try again!
Duh, it’s “Hands Off She’s Mine”, maybe my favorite song on that album!
I will keep trying based on your encouragement. I CAN DO IT!
Is the still-unidentified Aerosmith entry Sweet Emotions, towards the beginning of this one?
I’m thinking that Aerosmith song is Combination but it’s probably because that’s what I want it to be. I think you’re probably right.
fuck no! that’s combination!!!
DINGDINGDINGDING!
It is in fact “Combination,” one of the greatest riffs in the key of “E” that rock has ever coughed up.
We’re still missing a few. I know Townsman Massimo will recognize at least one, now that it’s frontwards.
that’s my favorite song by those guys.
i think joe perry is singing at least as loud as tyler in that one.
great song, great album, yet only 1 album side later (the first half of draw the line), they fell into the toilet forever.
go figure.
YES! Back in action. Now get back to work, RTH!
Um, “Modern Love” by David Bowie?
Nope. Sorry, Massimo. There are still one or two gimmes in there. And one I was *sure* you’d know — it’s from an album I know you take bullets for.
OK, this contest sucks but here’s a few guesses:
Aztec Camera “Oblivious”
Badfinger “No Matter What”
Bob Dylan “Times They Are A Changin'”
OK, your guesses suck, but here’s a few responses:
Aztec Camera — correct, but already identified
Badfinger — correct, but already identified
Bob Dylan — incorrect, but you’ve got the right artist
I guess I should have checked the other thread! Even so, I’ll say “Tambourine Man.” There’s that little pinky-wiggle lift at the end.
Sorry, eh — wrong again! I admit, this Dylan number is a toughie. But kudos to you for ID’ing it as Dylan. The rest of you: I’m disapointed nobody’s identified the “chuck-a-chuck-a” bit, and one other one that I would get right away if I were in your shoes. You’ve got until COB Monday, and then I reveal all.
You know, I was kind of assuming that part had to be some song using the Bo Diddley riff…but…is that Jive Talkin’?
DINGDINGDINGDING!
We have another winner! Yes, the chuck-a-chuck-a part is “Jive Talkin'” by the Bee Gees.
We have a Dylan song and two very much unguessed numbers to go. The slower, less rockin’ of the two ought to be a gimme. Or was I the only guy who listened to this album in high school and college? Was he *that* much bigger in Africa than over here? By this album, the artist in question was pretty gigantic globally.
That “Jive Talkin'” clip was a masterstroke!
