Listening to a Nina Simone compilation yesterday, a strange rendition of a tune caught my attention. I looked up this song, “Everyone’s Gone To The Moon,” and found the the original rendition of the song was more tuneful than Simone’s (though less campy, and thus, entertaining to me). But as I listened, the song began to remind me of something else….
Is it me?
Or does this song sound remarkably like…
What previously unidentified (to your knowledge) sound alikes have you come across?
How about Springsteens Wreck On The Highway? A surefire soundalike of Green Green Grass Of Home.
The verses of “Creep” by Radiohead sounds like the verse of “All I Need is the Air That I Breathe” by the Hollies.
Also, I’m not sure if this has been identified, but Smells Like Teen Spirit is just Godzilla sped up.
Well, I’m pretty sure we’ve been on this subject before – the one that I always think of is Badfinger’s “Day after day” and Joe Jackson’s “breaking us in two.”
But what I found funny about the King/Clapton thing was the contrast of this stupid little ditty that is heartfelt, I suppose, but still a stupid little ditty. And while I listened to it and realized that it sounded like what is (imho) one of the more pompous blowhard tunes in the rock cannon, it made it pretty amusing to imagine these as a mash-up of sorts.
Another one along those lines is “We’re Not Gonna Take It” being essentially the same as “O Come All Ye Faithful.”
Is it just me, or does Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” somehow slot into the melody and rhythm of Prince’s “1999”?
The verses of His Royal Bossness’ lengthly “Outlaw Pete” (yawn) sound strikingly like the chorus of Kiss’ “I Was Made For Loving You.”
Who could forget that “Ghostbusters (Ray Parker, Jr., not Senior)” and Huey Lewis’ “I Want a New Drug” are virtually the same song, straight down to the cheesy 80’s synth.
